Gymnastics has reached its regional weekend and a couple area competitors wrapped up their regular season on high notes. In a meet at Rocky Mountain, Lone Star's Alivia Weathers took home first place in the vault, second in both the bars and floor, and third in the all-around. Teammate Elizabeth Miller secured a third place finish in the vault. For Weathers, her score in the vault was the 11th best in Class 4A this season. The 10 spots ahead of her are owned by only four different athletes.

Boys’ soccer is in its final week of regular season play, as the State tournament begins next week. Lamar continues to have success on the pitch, improving to 8-0 entering the final week. The Savages picked up three wins last week, beginning with a 6-5 decision over Colorado Springs Christian last Tuesday, behind four goals and an assist from Holly junior Josue Avalos. Avalos added three more goals and an assist in Thursday's 9-1 win over St. Mary's, while Holly's Omar Moreno tallied four goals and an assist. The duo combined for all four goals in Friday's 4-3 win at Vanguard School. Lamar closes the regular on Thursday at Manitou Springs.

In Class 4A, Fort Morgan split a pair of matches last week. The Mustangs dominated Roosevelt 4-1 last Tuesday, scoring three first half goals to take command of the contest. Senior Jonathan Beltran scored a goal and also recorded two saves in the match-up. On Thursday, the Mustangs saw Thompson Valley break a 2-all tie when the Eagles scored the game-winner in the second half. That loss dropped Fort Morgan to 4-4 on the season. They visited Berthoud on Tuesday and were slated to travel to Weld Central on Wednesday for their regular season finale.

There are just two more weekends of play in spring football and Hoehne continues to make its case as the best 8-man program playing in Season C. The Farmers improved to 3-0 with last Friday's 66-34 win over John Mall. Hoehne outscored the Panthers 34-10 over the second and third quarters to seize control of the contest. John Mall had success on the ground, running for more than 200 yards, but the Farmers came up with a pair of interceptions on defense to snuff out drives. Hoehne has outscored its opponents 216-116. They host Justice on Friday, and will wrap up the regular season next Friday at Las Animas.

Las Animas ground out a hard-fought 28-22 win on the road at Plateau Valley last Saturday. The Trojans struck paydirt twice in the second quarter and took a 14-6 lead into the intermission. Junior QB Markus Vigil ran for 163 yards and threw for 147 and two touchdowns to power the Trojan offense. Caden Morlan added 177 yards and a score on the ground. Their defense came up with three takeaways on interceptions. With seven teams playing, Las Animas is the odd man out this week. The Trojans will take a 3-1 mark into next week's game with Hoehne.

With regionals looming on May 1, volleyball hits a crucial stretch this week. With eight teams in each classification earning the right to host a three team regional, the opportunity to play at home is huge.

In Class 1A, Fleming is in the catbird seat. The Wildcats entered the week tops in all four seeding metrics and barring a collapse, the defending champs should be the top overall seed. The back end of the schedule is far from a cakewalk, with a non-league clash next Tuesday at home against Merino and the regular season finale next Saturday against 3A Sterling.

Merino is in the mix to host a regional, as the Rams began the week with a six-match winning streak. They were inside of the top eight in the seeding index. The Rams dropped a total of three sets in that streak, one apiece to Wiggins, Haxtu, and Limon.

Stratton/Liberty pushed its winning streak to eight with last Saturday's 3-0 win over McClave. The Knighted Eagles put their unblemished record on the line Tuesday at Genoa-Hugo/Karval and they will host Burlington on Thursday, before visiting Deer Trail on Friday. Stratton/Liberty has only lost four sets all season.

Wiley and Springfield opened the week a combined 14-2, and both were in position to host a regional. Wiley is responsible for the only loss on the Longhorns' record, and they will meet again next Saturday. Both teams have non-league contests with McClave this week.

The LPAA looks to get two regional hosts in Class 2A, as Wiggins and Sedgwick County were both in good shape in the seeding index late last week. Those two will meet on Friday, as part of a tri that also includes Caliche. Wiggins had a key date with Limon on Tuesday, with each side having dropped its last outing, both against Merino.

Limon is also in line to host a regional, as are Fowler and Byers. The three teams held down spots 6-8 in the most recent release of the seeding index. That came out before each squad suffered losses late last week. Byers could really help its cause by beating Limon on the road on Thursday.

Lamar is really looking like one of the teams to beat in Class 3A. The Savages came into the week 9-0, without having lost a single set. They picked up five wins last week, downing Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs Christian in league play, and then rolling through Limon, Sargent and Fowler in Fowler's tournament on Saturday. Their dynamic duo of sophomore Sydney Dunning (135 kills) and junior Fernanda Merancio (123 kills) are ranked first and fourth in the class in kills. Sterling's Sydney Henry is second with 133.

With 24 teams qualifying for regionals in each class, Fort Morgan began the week with a solid shot of making the field in Class 4A. In the latest release of the seeding index, the Mustangs held the 20th spot. The Mustangs had a chance to nail down second place in the Longs Peak with a win over Niwot on Monday. Everyone is chasing Thompson Valley in the league. That clash with Niwot was part of a tri that included Mead. Thursday's trip to Frederick will also play an important role in securing a postseason berth.
