Michelle Patterson, Director of Special Education, at Northeast Colorado BOCES, has been chosen by the faculty at the University of Northern Colorado to be recognized as a College of Education and Behavioral Sciences Scholar. Only a very small percentage of the students receive this distinction each year based upon their academic achievement, research involvement, leadership and potential for success in their discipline.

Patterson was recognized at the Honors Convocation ceremony, which was held virtually on Thursday, April 8. Acting Dean Robyn Hess wrote "it is the students like you who exemplify what it means to be a #UNCBear at the University of Northern Colorado and I personally thank you for your exemplary focus, excellence and dedication to your field."

Northeast BOCES Executive Director, Tamara Durbin, said, "Mrs. Patterson possesses a wealth of expertise in education, including a vast amount of experience with students with disabilities, as a teacher and for many years as a preschool, kindergarten through 12th grade principal for the Otis School District. We are fortunate to have her as our Special Education Director at NE BOCES."

Michelle Patterson is in her first year as Director of Special Education for Northeast Colorado BOCES and is currently pursuing her Special Education Director licensure.

Northeast BOCES provides supports to approximately 4,000 students and 350 educators in 12 school districts including Akron, Fleming, Haxtun, Holyoke, Julesburg, Lone Star, Merino, Otis, Peetz, Revere, Wray and Yuma.
