HEAVY rainfall Tuesday evening, April 27 caused major damage south of Haxtun as some residents reported totals between five and eight inches overnight. Water levels forced law enforcement to close Highway 59 south of town for a short time in addition to many county roads that were damaged from running water. County crews spent much of the coming days repairing and re-opening dirt roads.
