Deanna Lacina

Deanna Lacina passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at her home in Julesburg at the age of 48.

Deanna was born on July 25, 1972 in Holyoke to Joe and Margaret McCallum. Deanna's family frequently moved when she was a child and she attended numerous schools. She would eventually settle in Sterling, where she worked as a cashier at Walmart for many years.

Eventually, Deanna's health deteriorated to the degree that she was no longer able to work and so she poured her heart into a project that she created called Baby Blessings. Deanna began this project as an outreach for babies and their parents that found themselves in need. For years, Deanna propagated Baby Blessings through Facebook and any means she could. When donors to the cause would emerge, she would drive to pick up their donations and deliver them to the needy. Baby Blessings became more than a job to Deanna; it was her distinct calling.

Deanna was very creative and loved to craft. She made wreaths for every occasion, making use of things that otherwise might end up being discarded. She loved to paint items, giving them new life and purpose.

Deanna loved to travel but was physically limited, so she appreciated the times she got to see and experience new things. When her grandson, Boston, was born, it brought new meaning and joy to her life. Deanna cherished every minute she got to spend with him and the rest of her family.

Survivors include her fiancé Chris Dillard, Julesburg; children Anthony Lacina and wife Kirsten, Sidney, Neb., and Justin Lacina and wife Samantha, Sidney; brothers Danny McCallum, Sterling, and David and wife Jolene McCallum, Haxtun; grandson Boston; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Deanna is preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Tiffany; and sister-in-law Kathy.

A memorial has been established in Deanna's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Julesburg assisted with arrangements.
