PINCH RUNNER Victor Knapp makes it back to first base in time for a safe call by the umpire in a home game against Yuma several weeks ago.

The Bulldogs added two wins and two losses to their already even record last week with a double-header win over Sedgwick County and a double-header loss to Merino. Haxtun played both contests at home, rounding out regular season home games for the year. The team has just one more match up left on the regular season before Districts are slated to begin in early June.

The Bulldogs hosted Sedgwick County in a home conference match up with the Cougars last Tuesday, taking the first win 8-4. Haxtun found themselves down by two runs after one inning of play but bounded back to even things out late in the second. The home team added one run in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to hold on for the win.

The second contest of the day went much the same way, both teams putting one run on the board in the first inning but Haxtun taking the lead in the second with four more runs. The Cougars added two in the third to keep it close for a while but the fourth and fifth innings were all Bulldogs as the gentlemen in red added nine runs for a 14-4 win.

Following a three day break, the Bulldogs hosted Merino in the final regular season home contests on Friday. Haxtun dropped both conference match ups, the first 15-4 and the second 8-2.

Last week's play leaves the team at 6-6 on the season and 6-5 in league play. Haxtun holds the fifth spot in the 2A/1A Lower Platte League standings. Wray currently sits at number one, Merino holds the second spot and Caliche stands at third. Wiggins is just ahead of the Bulldogs in the fourth spot. Akron, Sedgwick County, Yuma and Holyoke all hold the bottom four seats in the league.

This week the Bulldogs are slated to take on Prairie on the road Friday afternoon in a double-header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. According to Maxpreps, the Prairie Mustangs are 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
