Pool committee plans fundraisers

The Haxtun Swimming Pool project marches on; to date the committee tasked with raising funds to construct a new swimming pool in Haxtun reports a total of $358,000 so far.

“The committee is encouraged by donation progress over the past six months,” Committee Member Lee Salyards said in a recent update.

The goal, Salyards said, is to locally raise $750,000. “We’ve seen so many local businesses and individuals step up and give, which gets the project closer to its goal.”

The goal figure is one provided by a grant writer who has experience writing applications to Great Outdoors Colorado. GOCO offers competitive grant programs for outdoor recreation throughout the State. Being just shy of $400,000 mark, the committee hopes others will step up to help the cause in various forms of donations including cash/check, in-kind work and pledges. Pledges will be due at the time of groundbreaking of the pool project.

In hopes to raise funds this summer, the Haxtun Swimming Pool committee plans to host two softball tournaments; one on Sunday, July 4 and the other on Saturday, July 31. Forms to register are available now and can be returned to Town Hall. Forms can be found on the Haxtun Swimming Pool Project Facebook page.

Additionally, committee members plan to sell breakfast burritos during the Poker Run during Old-Fashioned Saturday Night, slated for July 17.

The Haxtun Swimming Pool project includes a new zero entry pool with four swim lanes, a drop slide, one meter diving board and a zero-entry splash pad as well as new ADA compliant bathhouse and other site improvements. Plans are to construct the new pool on the northeast end of Town, near where the current pool sits.
