Sept. 9, 1936

George Decker, 67, passed away at a hospital in Haxtun Thursday morning. Mrs. Clifford Gum of the Wages community passed away last Friday at a Denver hospital at the age of 19 years.

Main street in Haxtun is to be oiled surfaced, it was announced this week by town officials. The work will begin next Monday, using state highway equipment.

The Tin Can Tourists of the World, folks who have put wheels under parlor, bedroom and bath, assembled 2,000-strong for their summer conclave at the Erie County fairgrounds, Sandusky, Ohio. From all the highways and byways of the North American continent, they poured into the fairgrounds.

Sept. 12, 1951

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Henry Edward Stryker, 81.

Sixty-five carlots of wheat were forward from Haxtun during the month of August, according to a comparative report furnished by G.B. Hire, local railroad agent. For the same month in 1950, 32 cars of wheat were forward. One car of barley was shipped and there were no cars of corn forward.

Fleming News - The Bingo Birthday Club met Friday afternoon, Sept. 7, with Mrs. Norris Pyle, to celebrate her birthday anniversary. Members present were Mrs. Art Call, Mrs. Gus Marks, Mrs. Claude Fitzimmons, Mrs. Paul Lambert, Mrs. Myron Stevens, Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Ike Force, and the honored guests. Mrs. Finnis Brown was a guest.

Clarkville News - Chase Meakins of Haxtun was in the Clarkville community Thursday adjusting hail damage.

Fairfield News - Pvt. Daniel Bjorklun left by plane from Denver Sunday evening. He has enjoyed a two-week furlough with his relatives and friends here. Dan is to go to New Jersey and expects to be sent to Germany soon.

Sept. 9, 1976

A third patrolman, Raymond Johnson, has joined the Haxtun Police Force. Johnson, a 20-year man with U.S. Air Force, was born and raised in Winchester, Kentucky.

Volunteers help load a truckload of appliances and furniture that was donated by Haxtun-area residents to the flood victims in Big Thompson Canyon.

Haxtun native (David) Larry Gueck has been appointed county director for the Cooperative Extension Service in Lewis County, Wash. He will be leaving an extension agent position in horticulture with the Colorado State University Extension Service in Jefferson County.

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Les Rices' wedding anniversary was honored Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. John Ertle and family had them for a special dinner in the Ertle home. Joining them were Tina Rice and Dianne Heiby.

Larry McConnell led the first of 26 men competing in the H & F Gold Club's Labor Day Tournament shooting an 80, which was three strokes up on Lowell Heath. Jack Kohnen finished third in strokes. In the championship flight in the women's division Della Hart shot a 50, one stroke ahead of Joyce Burton and four better than Karen Smith.

Sept. 12, 1991

Summer storm rips through Fleming: Nathan Lousberg, pictured, sits on a downed utility line in grandmother's (Mildred Dodd's) yard on Thursday following night's storm. Several residents are convinced a tornado hit the town.

"It wasn't like a funnel. It was like a big pipe. It stayed wide from the top to the bottom and sounded like a train crashing and then the lights went out," Stone said. "It looked like a water spout," Gary Wisdom said.

Haxtun's fight' Bulldogs slipped past a last-quarter deficit to snatch the lead and the win from Granada in the final seconds of football play on Saturday. The final score came on a field goal by Devin Newth, with seven seconds left on the clock. Other scores were made by Rod Workman and Sean Gillotte. Other team members: Justin McDaniel, James Ramey, Jamey Lueth, Alan Eckman, Roger Olsen, Jason Schmidt, Damion Mosher, Rob Stienman, Dale Chaney, Jason Ulmer, Darin Smith, Mark Salvador and Tyler Knode.

"Proud to be a Fleming Wildcats" serves as the theme from the 81st annual Fleming Fall Festival scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 17. All staff at Fleming Schools have been selected to serve as grand marshals and honored citizens for the event.

On Saturday morning, Sept. 24, a parade will head down Haxtun's main street led by this year's Grand Marshals Clark and Laverne Starkebaum. Members of the Haxtun Chamber of Commerce chose the long-time residents for the Grand Marshal honor.

The Haxtun Bulldogs clawed their way to a 28-14 victory over the Cheylin Cougars in Bird City, Kan. Friday night to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Fleming Wildcats added their second win of the season on Friday following their home opener against the Hi-Plains Patriots. The Patriots headed into the game against the Fleming Wildcats at 1-0 on the season following a win over the Lone Star Longhorns.
