Wildcats dish out third shut out in 4th week

The Fleming Wildcats returned to their regularly scheduled 6-man action last week with a contest on the road at Pawnee. The Wildcats met up with the Haxtun Bulldogs for an 8-man contest the week prior, suffering their first loss of the season. This week's action put them back on track - dishing out their third shut out in the fourth week of 6-man gridiron action.

The Wildcats met up with the Coyotes on the Coyotes' home turf last Friday evening. Scores by quarter were not reported on MaxPreps, but the Wildcats handed the home team a 70-0 loss.

The Wildcats ran a solid ground game for the night with seven ball carriers racking up 257 rushing yards. Junior Nolan Japp led with 82 yards on three carries - two of those carries resulting in six points. Freshman Grant Kuntz followed with 78 yards off five carries; one for a touchdown. Sophomore Matix Haney added another 78 yards and one TD off five carries.

Senior Hayden Burr took the ball twice on offense gained three yards and two TDs. He led the team defensively in tackles with 10; split at five solo and five assisted. He brought down one sack for a Coyote seven-yard loss.

Japp followed Burr in tackles with eight. He brought down seven solo and one assisted. Junior Kolten Houser added seven total tackles off five solo and two assisted.

Houser and junior classmate Kody Donnelson each caught an interception. Houser returned his 32 yards.

Several players added tallies to the scoreboard for the night. Japp led with three TDs for 18 points. Kicker Kenny Bandy followed with 16 points; he made good on eight of nine points-after attempts. Burr added 12 off his two rushing touchdowns. Kuntz, Haney, Houser and junior Blake Feather each found the end zone once for six points apiece.

The Wildcats are scheduled to remain on the road this week and next. This week's contest takes them to Walden to face off with the North Park Wildcats. North Park enters the contest at 2-2 on the season with losses to Mountain Valley and Prairie and wins over Flagler and Weldon Valley. The match up between the Wildcats in green and the Wildcats in blue is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
