KRYSTAL KUGLER, 2, daughter of Roy and Deb Kugler of Haxtun, isn't sure she likes Santa, but she did manage to tell him she wants a "Baby Talk" for Christmas. Santa was in Haxtun this past Monday night visiting with children in the area.

Dec. 16, 1936

With the aim of providing a community hospital at Haxtun in the near future, a number of interested men and women met at the tabernacle Tuesday evening and formed a permanent organization to promote the project. Members of the committee are Mrs. A. Jankovsky, chairman; Mrs. Arthur Ahnstedt, vice chairman; Mrs. J.W. Meakins, secretary; G.B. Hire, corresponding secretary; and H.B. Radford, treasurer. Local sponsors hope to obtain assistance from the Works Progress Administration to help finance the community hospital.

Dec. 19, 1951

Deaths: William Leonard Ferguson, 65, passed away Tuesday morning (Dec. 18, 1951) following an illness of six months. Kathy Kae Hulse, 2, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Hulse, passed away Tuesday following an illness of pneumonia. Alfred L. Scott, 73, passed away Saturday afternoon (Dec. 15, 1951) following an illness of a year's duration. Evan E. Taylor, brother of Leslie E. Taylor, passed away Friday morning (Dec. 14, 1951) in Denver. He was a stone cutter and his last work was placing the stone on the new Methodist Church.

Word received from the 20th Century Studio by the local Gamble store this week contains news that five children from this community will participate in the final judging of its annual children's photo contest. Parents of the children are Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Foushee, Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Hewlett, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hovel.

Dec. 16, 1976

Death: Florence Grace (White) Amack, 93, died Sunday morning (Dec. 12, 1976).

Fleming News - Those from Fleming attending the Colorado School Board convention in Colorado Springs were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth O'Mara, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hulse, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Schaefer, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davis.

Twenty junior high boys make up the 1976-77 Bullpup basketball team. Eighth graders: Lennie Fisbeck, John Hart, Chet Nelson, Jim Orth, Chris Peterson, Ben Wernsman, and John Anderson. Seventh graders: Greg Lundgren, Todd Orcutt, Bradley Anderson, David Salyards, Kevin McDaniel, Paul Davis, Kenneth Jackson, Tony Wernsman, Ed Casella, Tony Smith, Chris Bornhoft, Leroy Salyards, and Dennis Ruch.

Lady Bulldogs: Kristie Constance, Kathie Anderson, Melissa Miller, Lori Prussman, Kari Starkebaum, Kathy Harms, Joyce Olson, Chelle Nelson, Tammy Ridenour, Melanie Hofmeister, Lori Hinde, and Rhonda Potter. Jodi Heermann is their coach.

Dec. 19, 1991

Pictured: The spirit of the season comes through the faces of our young. Three wise men, played by Adam Walter, Beau Starkebaum, and Michael Ensminger, come bearing gifts to the baby Jesus during songs performed Sunday evening by the young people of the Haxtun United Methodist Church.

Wilbur and Helen Singleton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a week early at the Fleming United Methodist Church. They were married Dec. 21, 1941.

Fleming kindergartners filled the gym with Christmas cheer for the annual program: Brandy Frahm, Corrie Schaefer, Benjamin Wolever, Danny Powell, Carrie Krier, Lauryn Etl, Brian Wessel, Ryan Einspahr, Tonya Headdy, Sarah Beck, Brian Brownell, and Darin Hershfeldt.

Bulldog honors: Becky Braun, first team-Rocky Mountain News, honorable mention-Denver Post; Staci Starkebaum, honorable mention RMN; Dana Salvador, second team-RMN, first team-DP; Jamie Lueth, honorable mention, RMN; Sam Yost, first team defense-both; Sean Gillotte, first team defense-both; Rod Workman, player of the year and first team defense-both, also first team offense-DP; John Starkebaum, coach of the year-RMN.

The Phillips County Commissioners broke ground on the Homesteaders' Park playground project last week. The project includes a handicapped accessible playground, an artificial turf field and a nine-hole Frisbee golf course in the park located at the PC Fairgrounds.

Haxtun football players Cody Fix, senior, Weston Salyards and Ryan Nelson, juniors, were named All-Conference and seniors Cole Fix and Luke Davis and junior Kyle Pierce were named All-Conference, Honorable Mention.

Haxtun Lady Bulldogs Marquel Gueck, a senior, and Courtny Dickerson, a junior, were named All-Conference, Honorable Mention for their part on the volleyball team this season.

Lady Wildcat hitters Morgan Wilkening, a senior, and Taylor King, a junior, were named to the All-Conference list for their contribution to this year's 1A State Runner-up volleyball team. Senior setter Cheyenne Herbert and freshman Libero Megan Chintala also received All-Conference honors.

The Colorado 6-man State Champion Fleming Wildcat football team came away with seven players earning All-Conference honors. Seniors Casey Henry and Andrew Lightsey were named All-Conference. Juniors Tanner Serrato, Tyler Vandenbark and Trevor Chintala also grabbed All-Conference recognition. Senior Alex Haney and junior Kyle Lengfelder received All-Conference, Honorable Mention.
