Haxtun FFA holds Christmas meeting

On Dec. 5, the Haxtun FFA chapter held its annual Christmas meeting filled with all sorts of festive activities as well as a normal business meeting. The night kicked off with the regular business meeting, when that was finished the activities began.

There were sugar cookies for decorating, there were things like snowflakes, trees and mittens. While all the decorating was going on a movie was playing but the real fun began when the cornhole tournament started. As each team moved on in the bracket or unfortunately fell off the students cheered loud and got into the event. The winners of the cornhole tournament were Grant Statz and Tyler Mavis.

Members also recently participated in the District Leadership Conference. At this year’s conference, speaker Landan Schaffert gave a speech about his personal life as well as how the FFA has impacted his life.

Following that, freshmen competed at the creed speaking and quiz bowl contests in the morning while sophomores went to workshops. Junior and seniors toured the Sterling livestock Commission and Luft Machine. The afternoon was filled with more workshops.

At end the day, winners of the competitions were announced: Creed Speaking, Addison Oliver and Braden Plumb placed silver; Quiz Bowl team: team one: Braden Plumb, Brandon Nall, and Gage Helgoth had a bye first round and lost second round by one point; second team: Addison Oliver, Austin Haynes, Serenity Dick and Brett Kanode lost in the first round.
