JUNIOR Maclin Tempel, Bulldog #32, looks for two in an outing against Merino early this season.

Despite their first loss of the season last week, the Haxtun Bulldogs head into Christmas break in the number two spot in Colorado High School Activities Association rankings. Haxtun fell to Holyoke on the road Tuesday night but bounced back for a win over Peetz on Thursday. The Bulldogs are currently 5-1 overall and will begin league play when they return from break on Jan. 7.

Haxtun traveled Tuesday night to the home of the 2A Holyoke Dragons. Both teams, who share the same Lower Platte League, entered the contest unbeaten. Haxtun played well the first quarter, taking an early led over the home team but the Dragons slowly chipped away to come out with a 62-53 win to remain unscathed on the season.

BULLDOG senior Isaac Andersen, #42, goes in for a lay up in a home match up with Peetz. Haxtun picked up the win and enters the holiday break with just one loss on the record.

Just two nights later, Haxtun hosted the Peetz Bulldogs. The Bulldogs in green are a fellow 1A team but fall into a different league. Haxtun came out with a 60-32 in win to enter the holiday break with a 5-1 record.

Individual stats for the two games were not reported as of press time.

The Bulldogs return from break on Friday, Jan. 7 when the team is slated to travel to Yuma to take on the Indians. According to MaxPreps, the Indians also hold a 5-1 record. Yuma's one loss came just last week as they suffered a two-point loss to Eaton before Christmas break.

The following night, Haxtun is set to travel for a second time as they face off with Prairie on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Prairie Mustangs hold a 3-1 record with wins over Caliche, Otis and Arickaree/Woodlin but a recent loss to Briggsdale. Prairie lost to Briggsdale by one, 49-48 in their final outing before entering break.
