The Haxtun Volunteer Fire department will probably display a new fire truck in the near future, following action by the town board to purchase complete new equipment. The new custom-built truck will be mounted on a Chevrolet chassis that has been purchased from Ace Goddard of the Clark Chevrolet Company.

Local officers were searching the town and countryside here Saturday evening in an effort to locate two young men who passed counterfeit coins at a Haxtun business firm. The newly minted coins were half-dollars and were given in payment of small purchases at Corner Drug Store. The money was noticeably defective and part of the lettering was entirely missing.

Doris Jean, the four-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Monk, passed away early Tuesday morning, a victim of pneumonia.

Jan. 16, 1952

Theodore (Ted) R. Roos, FN, wrote from Siagon, French Indo China, about his life on the USS Sausalito. Bangkok, Siam, was to be his ship's next stop.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mooney of San Francisco, Calif., are the parents of a baby girl born Friday, Jan. 11. She was named Joleen.

Mr. and Mrs. Galen Bamford of Willard visited friends at Haxtun Thursday.

The Haxtun Bulldogs tucked their second conference victory away Friday night when they sent the Wray Eagles to defeat by a score of 39 to 22.

Mary Louise Evans, Phillips County Clerk, presents license plates to county commissioners Harold Colglazier, Ralph Thompson, and Leland Miller. The plates, XY-1, XY-2, and XY-3, indicate the districts represented by each commissioner. Colorado has gone back to the basic green and white tags and is beginning five-year tags with stickers indicating the year after this year.

Representative Maynard Yost has been cleared of all allegations concerning a possible election advertising violation during the 1976 general election. Neither Yost nor Diane Reese, who gave him information on Rep. David Sprague's vote on House Joint Resolution 1010, knew that the vote was incorrect. District Attorney Doyle Johns has been investigating the allegations.

Roscoe Peterson puts the finishing touches of pain on a room in the Church of the Brethren. Dedication of the facilities will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, according to Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff.

Jan and Augie Bjorklun are busy in the basement of Hobby Hut pouring some of their own ceramic items. Hobby Hut will be celebrating its first anniversary next week. It features copper sculpture, leather craft, ornaments, toys, jewelry, and macramé, string and miscellaneous craft kits.

The United States Air Force honored Major John R. Schaefer, son of Frank and Esther Schaefer, of Fleming, on the occasion of his retirement after 20 years and one month of service. Schaefer has been hired by the UNC Aviation Services as an instructor providing Air Force aviation flight training at Eglin AFB until June, when he will be transferred to Albuquerque, N.M.

On Thursday, Jan. 5, Debbie Herring and her son James decided to make a short trip into Sterling. At 1:39 p.m., Debbie received a call on her cell phone while she was helping James search for a job; the person on the other end informed her that their home on Fremont Street in Fleming was on fire and that it was so engulfed in smoke it would be a total loss.

Births: Seth Robert Schnabel, son of Kyle and Miranda (Kamery) Schnabel, born Dec. 5, 2011; Ethan Matthew Brownell, son of Craig and Jill Brownell, born Dec. 22, 2011.
