Wrestlers take top spots at recent meets; 3 take Championships

The Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestling team had a busy but successful week. On Thursday, Jan. 13 the team traveled to Holyoke for a triangular with St. Francis, Kan. and Holyoke. SCF came out on top against both teams beating St. Francis 39-10 and Holyoke 48-0.

Results of wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming from the St. Francis dual are as follows:

106-pound Kaiden Schelling over Dallas Laton with a fall in :18; 113-pound Scotty Engle over Shane Todd, 10-5; 120-pound Gage Helgoth was defeated by Asher Robbins, 13-0; 145-pound Keegan Colglazier over Caleb Todd with a fall in 1:00; 170-pound Ryan Davis won by forfeit; 182-pound Grant Statz over Colton Raile with a fall in 1:15.

Results of wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming from the Holyoke Dual are as follows:

106-pound Kaiden Schelling won by forfeit; 113-pound Scotty Engle won by forfeit; 120-pound Gage Helgoth won by forfeit; 145-pound Keegan Colglazier over Simon Krueger with a fall in 3:10; 170-pound Ryan Davis won by forfeit; 182-pound Grant Statz won by forfeit.

The team traveled to Imperial, Neb. on Saturday, Jan. 15 to participate in the Chase County Invitational. The team wrestled very well winning the team title with 152 points. In addition to the team championship the team had three individual champions. Those being 113-pound Scotty Engle, 152-pound Bryan Bagby and 160-pound Hayden Burr. Burr was also selected the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Results of wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming at the Chase County Invitational are as follows:

106-pound Kaiden Schelling started the team off by placing secnd. He defeated Jarrett Vanarsdall of Hershey, 13-4. He then defeated Nathaniel Barker of Bayard, 4-2. This win put Schelling in the Championship match against Hershey’s Ethan Elliott. He lost this match by fall.

Scotty Engle finished his day as the 113-pound champion. He defeated Emily Willis of Dundy County-Stratton with a fall in 1:09. He then defeated Hitchcock County’s Blake Devitt, 15-1. Last, Engle defeated Kaden Thompson of Hershey with a fall in 5:58 for the championship.

120-pound Gage Helgoth finished his day in fourth place. He defeated Cody Brinkman of Kimball with a fall in 5:29 and then lost his next match to Lucio Carrizales of Hershey by fall. Helgoth went on to win his next match against Nicholos Arroyo of Morrill with a fall in 3:35. This win put him in a match for third place. He lost the third-place match to Tony Lyon of Perkins County with a fall.

145-pound Keegan Colglazier finished in fourth place. He won his first match against Alonso Martinez of Chase County with a fall in 1:27. He then went on to defeat Simon Krueger of Holyoke with a fall in :47 before losing his semifinal match to Perkins County’s Colton Pouk by fall. Colglazier then defeated teammate Joshua Wright by fall in the Consolation Semifinal. This win put him in a match for third place. Colglazier lost this match to Adam Hill of Garden County, 10-0.

Also, at 145 pounds was Joshua Wright. Wright finished his day in sixth place. He was defeated by Adam Hill of Garden County by fall and then followed that with a win over Alonso Martinez of Chase County by Medical Forfeit. Wright won his Consolation Round Three match against Evan Vigil of Wray by a tech fall, 15-0. He then met up with teammate Keegan Colglazier where he lost by fall. Wright’s final opponent of the day was Nathan Kollmorgen of Hitchcock County. He lost this match by fall.

160-pound Hayden Burr had another successful weekend winning the championship in his division. He was also named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler. Burr defeated Laken Wissink of Dundy County-Stratton with a fall in 2:48. He then defeated Laila Aufdengarten of Wauneta-Palisade with a fall in 1:00. Burr then defeated Gunner Roberson of Garden County with a fall in 3:45. This win put him in the championship match against Tanner O’Brien of Hitchcock County where he won by in 3:23.

Also, competing at 160 pounds was Ryan Davis. Davis lost his first match to Beau Lake of Bayard by tech fall. He then defeated Laila Aufdengarten of Wauneta-Palisade with a fall in :43. In his final match of the day he was defeated by Tavery Chappell of Wray by fall.

Also, joining the team this week was 182-pound freshman Grant Statz. Statz finished his day in third place. He defeated Christopher Gaul of Bayard by fall in :30. He then lost his next match to Thomas Reeves of Chase County by fall. Statz went on to win his Round Four match against Blake Emig of Dundy County-Stratton with a fall in :2l. He then lost his final match of the day to Kolby Welling of Crawford by fall.

The team will have another busy week this week starting on Thursday, Jan. 20 when they are set to travel to Wray for a triangular against Dolores Huerta Preparatory and Wray. They are then scheduled to travel to Kearney, Neb. on Friday, Jan. 21 to take part in the UNK Midwest Duals and then on Saturday, Jan. 22 they plan to compete in the Rawlins County Invitational in Atwood, Kan.
