SC-F wrestling team takes third and second in most recent meets

170-POUND Grant Statz defeated Chris Torres of County Line with a fall in 1:57 to earn a third place finish at the Stratton Invitational on Jan. 29.

The Sedgwick County-Fleming wrestlers recently hit the road for two days of competition last week. They traveled to Curtis, Neb. to compete in the Medicine Valley Invitational on Jan. 28 where they finished in third place out of 14 teams. They then traveled to Stratton to compete in the Stratton Invitational on Jan. 29 where they finished in second place out of 15 teams.

Results for wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming from the Medicine Valley Invitational are as follows:

Kaiden Schelling placed second at 106 pounds. He defeated his first two opponents by fall; Cheyenne Kendall of Paxton in :15 and Grady Dempcy of Sutherland in 1:57. He was then defeated in the championship match by Braxton Hammond of Southern Valley, 6-4.

113-pound Scotty Engle was the Champion of his weight class. He defeated all three of his opponents by fall; Gage Overton of Southwest in 3:25, Chase Hamilton of Southern Valley in 2:54 and Luke Harper of Sutherland in 3:08.

145-pound Keegan Colglazier's day was cut short due to injury. He won his first match against Samuel Foster with a fall in :10. He was then unable to finish his match against Tyler O'Neil of Chase County.

Wrestling at 152 pounds was Ryan Davis. Davis lost his first match to Hunter Cook of Sutherland by fall. He was then defeated by Gabriel Moreno of North Platte JV by fall.

Hayden Burr finished his day as the 160-pound Champion. He defeated Gabe Trampe of Elm Creek by a fall in 3:03 and then defeated Aydan Kaps of Sutherland with a 17-0 tech fall. Burr won his championship match against Trevor Brown of Southern Valley with a 16-0 tech fall.

170-pound Grant Statz finished in fourth place. Statz won his first match against Conner Bryner of Wauneta-Palisade with a fall in 1:23. He then lost to Triston Stearns of Brady by fall. Statz won his consolation semifinal match against Gavin Cable of Sutherland with a fall in 3:45 and lost his third place match to Dallas Miller of Garden County by fall.

Results for Haxtun and Fleming wrestlers from the Stratton Invitational are as follows:

Schelling finished in fourth place in the 106-pound division. He defeated his first two opponents, Daken Torrence of Wray, 13-1, and Logan Haflich of Limon with a fall in :38. He then lost his third match to Austin Snapp of Wray, 9-5. Schelling then defeated Trace Brisendine of Baca County with a fall in 1:30. In his third place match, he lost to Carson Rockwell of Wray, 6-4.

Engle earned his second championship match of the weekend at 113 pounds. He defeated his first three opponents by fall; Cade Hoffman of Kiowa in :58, Simon Rehor of Stratton in 3:22 and Tucker McGeary of Baca County in 2:41. He then won his next two matches by decision beating Merek Charney of Akron, 8-1, and Jon Yapoujian of Byers, 6-4.

152-pound Ryan Davis lost to Ky Bandy of Limon by fall. He then lost to Eric Tracy of Wray by fall.

Burr won his second championship of the weekend at 160 pounds. He defeated all three of his opponents by fall; Jose Fuentes of Brush in 2:53, Kailer Schmidt of Limon in 1:06 and Tavery Chappell of Wray in 3:19.

170-pound Grant Statz placed third. He lost his first match to Keon Brandy of Limon by fall. He then defeated his next two opponents by fall; Dyllon Reisdorph of Kiowa in 1:11 and Justin Fader of Calhan in :30. Statz then lost to Gavin Brown of Akron by fall. In his third place match, he defeated Chris Torres of County Line with a fall in 1:57.

The team is scheduled to travel to Yuma on Saturday, Feb. 5 to participate in a team dual. This will be their final regular season competition before Regionals which is scheduled for Feb. 11 and 12 at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
