A chick hatchery will be located at Haxtun during the coming months, it was announced by C.H. Whomble, owner of the General Electric hatcheries in northeastern Colorado and southwestern Nebraska. Mr. Whomble is seeking several good flocks of hens to supply hatching eggs. The hatchery will be located in the Suhl building east of the Suhl garage.

Mrs. Leonard Sharpe entertained a number of young people last Sunday afternoon in honor of her son Keith, who was celebrating his birthday anniversary. Thirteen guests were present to enjoy an afternoon of games and entertainment.

Highland Center News - Mrs. Fred Sharpe entertained at a surprise slumber party in honor of Evelyn's 13th birthday. Guests: Lydia and Juliet Pierce, Frances Olson, Marie Rieche, Delilah Schmidt, and Doris Frisk.

Feb. 6, 1952

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kinzie of Fleming are the parents of a daughter born Sunday, Feb. 4. She was named Lois Denise.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark Starkebaum are the parents of a son, John Clark, born Sunday, Feb. 4.

Fleming News - Among those who received their certificates from the Home Nursing course that has just been completed are Mrs. Carl Rowan, Mrs. Charles Harmon, Mrs. Bob Lippitt, Mrs. Hugh Ballinger, Mrs. Finnis Brown, Mrs. A.J. Lousberg, Mrs. Emma Wilson, Mrs. Ed Chapin, Mrs. Roy Pimple, Mrs. Ellis Schmidt, Mrs. Wesley Grauberger, and Mrs. C.L. Clark.

Mrs, George Jones entertained her canasta club Monday evening. Present were Mrs. Ed Jones, Mrs. Chas Rush, Mrs. Ward Lindon, Mrs. Verneda Biesemeier, and Mrs. Minnie Adamson.

Marriage license: Darwin G. Jeffers of Haxtun to Eleanor M. Bartlett of Merino.

Dedication of Immanuel Lutheran Church educational win will be this Sunday with speaker Rev. Gary Rahe, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Holyoke, and a former member of Immanuel congregation. Groundbreaking for the new wing was held on Dec. 7, 1975.

Paoli Ag Service will be hosting a grand opening/open house on Feb. 10 in honor of the opening of the newly added fertilizer blending facility. Paoli Ag Service came into being about two years ago when brothers D.E. and Ed Neiman saw the need to offer programs in this area that were not available.

Darrell Smith is observing 20 years with State Farm Insurance Companies. His wife Shirley says she has been with the local State Farm office for 34 years since her father, Fred Swisher, was the agent before Darrell.

After nearly 27 years of driving rural roads to deliver the mail, Mayor J.B. Hoadley became officially retired on Feb. 1. Hoadley took the job at the local post office at the same time he owned and operated the Haxtun Department Store. He closed the store a few years later, in 1959. He has served on the Haxtun Town Board for 30 years, with 20 of those as mayor.

Steve and Lynn Boerner are the parents of Jenifer Ann Boerner, born Jan. 31, 1992.

Haxtun FFA students attending the National Western Stock Show in January were Alan Eckman, Brian Starkebaum, Ryan Salvador, Justin Lett, Damon Fetzer, Casey Sumpter, Chad Bamford, Bill Mathews, Jared Kurtzer, Jason Hadeen, Rob Steinman, Dale Chaney, Mark Salvador, Justin McDaniel, and Staci Starkebaum. The students were accompanied by advisor Jack Swope and his wife Rebecca.

There were just two action items on the agenda for the Haxtun Board of Education in their first meeting of the new year. Board members voted to accept the resignation of Vicki Fuesz and to increase classified substitute pay on Feb. 17.

Members of the Haxtun Childcare Coalition Board of Directors and employees serve ice cream at the fourth annual Phillips County Taste of Ag last Monday night. The Phillips County Commissioners have agreed to donate proceeds from the evening to the HCCC but an exact dollar amount had not been announced as of press time.
