Albert Monk, 52 years of age, passed away suddenly Monday evening at his home 21 miles south and four east of Haxtun.

Charles Spry, well-known Phillips County farmer for more than 20 years, passed away last Thursday at his home two miles east of Paoli. He was past 70 years of age.

Dr. H.R. Rasor, who for several months had been in charge of the McKnight hospital at Haxtun, suspended his medical practice here and returned to Crook, where he will reopen his office. It has not been learned whether the McKnight hospital here will continue to operate.

Feb. 13, 1952

A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ahnstedt Saturday (Feb. 9, 1952). He has been named Rockie Lynn.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brekel of Fleming are the parents of a son born Thursday (Feb. 7, 1952). He has been named Leonard Edward.

Funeral services were held in Sedgwick Saturday (Feb. 9, 1952) for Mrs. Chas F. Edwards, 70. She and her husband were pioneer settlers of the country north of Haxtun near the Dewey Green farm.

New Haven News - Ed Weibers of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., was transferred to Texas. He drove through and spent a few days with home folks.

Paoli News - Harold Harms, Ervin Byrkit, Harold Firme and Neal Prussman of the Paoli Boy Scouts attended Scout dinner in Haxtun on Wednesday evening.

Feb. 10, 1977

The Haxtun School Board Tuesday unanimously voted to continue the tougher North Central Association accrediting standards presently used by the school. The decision was made following a lengthy public discussion on whether to approve those standards or to consider the less expensive and more lenient Colorado Department of Education guidelines.

Bill Wittenborn, a former Arizona newspaperman, was named editor of the Haxtun Herald on Monday, according to C. Bryce and Ron Wilkins, publishers of the paper. He is single and currently resides at the Tip Top Motel in Haxtun.

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McPherron of Greeley are the parents of Benjamin Paul, born Feb. 2, 1977.

Members of the Phillips County Fair Board decided last week to schedule mandatory sheep and hog weigh-ins at the fair this year. Advance ticket sales for the Jeanne C. Riley show will sell for $2.50 each through July 30 with the cost $3 at the gate.

Feb. 13, 1992

On Dec. 31, after 44 years, Miller Implement closed for business. Rather than pack up the parts and ship them back to suppliers, owner Mary Miller decided to give her inventory away. Miller, along with her husband Johnny and brother Bill Johnson, opened the John Deere dealership in 1947. At that time there were seven implement dealers in Haxtun. The closing leaves Leon Atkins Motors as the sole implement dealer in town.

Hello, World: Dennis and Marsha Hagemeyer, Haxtun, are the parents of Kaitlin Louise Hagemeyer, born Jan. 28, 1992. Rick and Cindy Potter of Haxtun are the parents of Jaiden Nicole Potter, born Feb. 7, 1992. Larry and Rena Mareel of Haxtun are the parents of Aja Lyn Mareel, born Feb. 5, 1992.

Rick Unrein has announced that he will step down as Fleming mayor because of time constraints.

Haxtun businessman and racer Monte Green is the National Hot Rod Association Champion for 2011 in the Top Sportsman class in NHRA's Division V. Green has competed in the class, which is the quickest and fastest of the sportsman door car (non-dragster/non-funny car) categories in NHRA racing, for several years.

Donald and Beverly Lock, Haxtun, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Feb. 12, 2012. The two were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz in 1972.
