The Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestling completed the two-day 2A Region 3 wrestling tournament with six wrestlers placing and three qualifying for the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament. The team finished in fifth place out of 15 teams.

Individual results for wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming are as follows:

106-pound sophomore Kaiden Schelling placed second and will be headed to Ball Arena with a record of 34-12. He defeated Logan Haflich of Limon in the quarterfinals with a 15-0 tech fall, then defeated Austin Snapp of Wray in the semifinals, 5-2. The semifinal win advanced him to the championship match against Cedaredge's Tel Geyer. Schelling lost this match, 7-2.

Freshman Scotty Engle also punched his ticket to the State Tournament at 113 pounds with a third place finish. Engle won his first-round match against Simon Rehor of Stratton with a fall in 3:02 and his quarterfinal match against Burlington's Aaron Robles with a fall in 1:51. He was then defeated in his semifinal match against Jon Yapoujian of Byers in a hard fought, 4-3, match. The loss put Engle on the consolation side of the bracket where he defeated Luke Wilfong of Peyton with a fall in 2:48 and advanced to the third place match where he defeated Ethan Hice of Cedaredge in another tough match, 7-6. Engle will be entering the State Tournament with a season record of 43-3.

120-pound freshman Gage Helgoth ended his season with a 13-23 record and a fifth place finish at the Regional Tournament. Helgoth lost his quarterfinal match to Andrew Buoy of Wray by fall. He then won his consolation round one match against Joey Corliss of Dayspring Christian with a fall in 4:05. He lost his consolation semifinal match against Gave Trevino of Burlington by fall. The loss put him in for fifth place where he defeated Trenton Compton of Peyton with a fall in 2:33.

145-pound sophomore Joshua Wright lost both of his matches by fall to Owen Powers of Cedaredge and Tayte Smith of Yuma. He ended his season with a 7-18 record.

Hayden Burr 160-pound Senior 45-1 Overall

Senior Hayden Burr is the 160-pound 2A Region 3 Champion and is headed to the State Tournament with a 45-1 season record. Burr won his championship round one and quarterfinal matches by fall against Kaelob Ranaldi of Peyton in :24 and Angel Vela of Burlington in 2:56. He then defeated Andrew Kaus of Merino with a 16-0 tech fall in his semifinal match. This win put him in the Championship match against Reed Brown of Wray. Burr won this match by medical forfeit.

Freshman Ryan Davis bumped up weights for the Regional Tournament to fill a spot that was left open due to injury. He competed at 182 pounds. Davis was defeated by Gavin Brown of Akron and Zak Cobb of Peyton by fall. He finished with a season record of 6-22.
