A new school gymnasium at Haxtun came a step nearer reality this week when the Phillips County High School committee voted to submit the proposition to voters. It is understood that a bond issue of not to exceed $35,000 will be requested, which will be combined with a government PWA grant to carry out the project.
A variety store was opened in one of the Barker buildings in Haxtun last week by Mrs. Mae Sullivan.

Miss Valva Hill became the bride of Pfc. Glenn Hofmeister in a quiet ceremony Tuesday evening, Feb. 26, at 8:30 o'clock at the Montview Presbyterian Chapel in Denver.
Mike Munday has been secured to operate the district equipment this year for the Haxtun Soil Conservation District.

Marvin A. Carlson, 52, of Haxtun suffered fatal injuries last Wednesday in a four-vehicle accident during a blinding dust storm five miles west of Holyoke on U.S. Highway 6.
Lloyd Heimer, 32, was killed Tuesday when the truck he was driving was hit broadside by an Amtrak passenger train in Eckley.
Fleming News - Benjamin Paul MacPherron, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McPherron, was hospitalized at St. Peters on Sunday morning.
Justin Lyle Hinde, son of Lyle and Dona Hinde, will celebrate his first birthday on Sunday, March 6.

Both of Fleming's libraries can now access over 30 libraries around the state via computer modems. Sue Einspahr, Fleming Town Clerk, also serves as town librarian.
The Haxtun Herald earned two awards at the annual Colorado Press Association newspaper contest in Denver Feb. 20-22. The paper received honorable mention for Best Series for the staff-produced special section, Farming the Plains from the 1890s to the 1990s. The Herald also won in the advertising excellence for weekly newspapers under 1,750 in circulation. Attending the convention were Holly Crawford, Arisa Hinde as former Bulldog Bulletin editor, Tonya Dishman and Jean Gray.

The Haxtun Hospital District is a step above the rest with the implementation of an electronic medical records system. HHD went live with the NextGen powered EMR last week. HHD is the first Colorado hospital to install and implement the NextGen ambulatory, finance and hospital technology.
Gib Becker is currently behind bars, serving a one-year stretch in the Yuma County Jail following a sentencing hearing on Friday. The former Haxtun resident was convicted on two counts of felony child abuse following a three-day trial last December.
