Jane Lavonne Olson
Jane L. Olson passed away on March 8, 2022 at the Haxtun nursing home of natural causes at the age of 91.
Jane Olson was born Dec. 10, 1930 at home in Red Lion to Rueben Pleasant and Harriet Ellen (Laughrey) Blake. Jane was raised in Red Lion until her mother passed. Then she moved to Haxtun with her sister Harriet and attended Haxtun Schools until approximately the eighth grade.
While at Harriet's, Aubrey Olson would attend game nights where he met Jane. They fell in love and married in Sedgwick on March 5, 1948. Jane was a homemaker and mother most of her life. She began working later in life as a caregiver to Betty and Stella and then a housekeeper at the hospital.
Jane received her GED from Northeastern Junior College on May 19, 1986, of which she was very proud. She was recognized as the most determined student.
After Aubrey passed in 2003, Jane began to attend the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed time and meals with her friends. Then she began her square-dancing career, where she met many more friends. She enjoyed square dancing so much that she made some of her own outfits.
Jane is survived by her children Tommy and wife Nita, Eads, Gary, Summerville, N.C., Nancy and husband Jack, Garden City, Kan., Connie and husband Daniel, Thornton, Richard, Haxtun, Duane, Greeley, Joyce and husband Nolan, Amherst, Jay, Sterling, Sarah and husband Mitch, Bartlett, Neb., Rusty and wife Michelle, Thornton, and Wilma and husband Joe, Parker; sister-in-law Wilma Blake, Julesburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents Rueben and Harriet; children Roger and Lloyd and his wife, Linda; granddaughter Katrina; brothers Leroy, Ernest, Harold, Walter, Raymond and Rodney; and sisters Hazle, Harriet and Maude.
Funeral services were held on March 15, 2022 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeri Seons officiating.
