Haxtun tracksters take top honors at State despite weather delays

Three days of State Track turned into a whirlwind of action and emotions thanks to mother nature. Temperatures in the Denver area reached the high 80s on Thursday but Friday was much, much different as snow began to fall causing delays in the Colorado State Track Meet schedule.

Snow and cold weather completely cancelled Friday's action, pushing State Track into Saturday and Sunday, forcing many Haxtun seniors to decide between graduation and relays and other individual events in Lakewood at Jeffco Stadium.

Several seniors competed in events that didn't interfere with graduation on Sunday afternoon, some running in events Sunday morning and racing the clock back to Haxtun in time to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. Others chose to attend graduation and enjoy the celebrations with friends and family.

Alternates and underclassmen stayed at track throughout the weekend, stepping in to fill in for relay teams, competing into Sunday afternoon and evening.
