Eric William Barkley passed away on Sunday June 5, 2022 at his home south of Fleming at the age of 47.

Eric was born on Nov. 20, 1974 in Sterling and lived most of his life on his family farm near Fleming. Eric graduated from Fleming High school and attended Northeastern Junior College. Eric attended Fleming United Methodist Church and was a member of the Sterling Elks Lodge.

Throughout the years, Eric enjoyed farming, riding horses and motorcycles, snowmobiling, playing on pool league, watching old movies, target shooting, listening to talk radio and building things in the shop. All of Eric's nieces and nephews tell of how much they loved going on fun adventures with their uncle and that he made them feel valued. Eric had a huge heart and a dry sense of humor.

Eric is survived by his mother Doris Frank Barkley, Fleming; brother Rick and wife Katy Barkley, Fleming; sister Wendy and husband Daniel Schulz, Kathmandu, Nepal; nephews Darrin and wife Heather Lambert, Larchwood, Iowa, and Luke Barkley, Fleming; and nieces Danielle and husband Josh Smith, Atlantic, Iowa and Daisy Barkley, Fleming.

Eric is preceded in death by his father Larry Andrew Barkley and grandparents William and Nora Barkley, Ralph Frank and Carl and Bernice Collins.
