After a lingering illness of three years, death brought an end of the suffering of N.S. Crow, 73, of Haxtun late Tuesday evening of this week (June 29, 1937).

Miss Doris Jessen became the bride of Mr. Ellis Hart last Thursday afternoon at a weeding that took place at the home of the bride's parents north of Haxtun.

Water was turned into the new municipal swimming pool at Haxtun Wednesday of this week and by Thursday the pool will again be opened to the public. Workmen constructed a wood platform approach this week and this is equipped with showers and treated water, according to regulations. A modern bathhouse is contemplated but, at present, there are no quarters for dressing at the pool.

Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Ricker of the Fairfield community are the parents of a son, Stanley Ray, born June 26.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Secrist are the parents of a daughter, Sharlyn Kay, born Friday, June 27.

A son, Richard John, was born to Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Maddox of Sedgwick Thursday.

News of servicemen ­- I wish to thank you ever so much for sending me the paper. This unit has quite a record since coming to Korea. Of course, I wasn't with them but still it's good to be in an outfit of this kind. They are the only unit that has reached the Manchurian border. When the famous Heartbreak Ridge was taken from us, the 7th Division recaptured it. The signal company has received three citations for doing an exception job under the hazardous conditions. Patricia Ann Schroetlin, 33, was killed and four persons injured last Thursday evening in a car/pickup truck collision southeast of Clarkville.

Fleming News ­- Fleming youngsters who attended church camp last week at Elephant's Rock near Monument: Eddie and Michelle Pemberton, Christie Kues, Trilla Wardrip, Jonette Mathiason and Sheila Wertz.

A farewell party was held recently for Rev. Edward Leonard, who has been pastor at Christ the Kind Catholic Church for the past seven years. Rev. John Murphy will be the new pastor and will serve St. Patrick's in Holyoke and St. Peter's in Fleming along with the Haxtun parish.

July 2, 1992

Haxtun's Sandy Ham placed third in Olympic trials at New Orleans last Wednesday, finishing the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:26, just four seconds behind first place and two seconds behind second place.

First graders being season in t-ball: Travis Hofmeister, Russell Hofmeister, Stephanie Harms, Kyle Wilson, Ryan Wernsman, Alex Snider, Braden Ham, Greg Fetzer, Joshua Gregory, Beau Starkebaum, Matthew Everitt, Adam Walter, Josh Dethlefsen, Kathleen Green and Esther Walker.
