Hunter Donovan returns from Girls' State

Hunter Donovan

July 4-9, I had the opportunity, along with nearly 80 other girls to attend the 2022 American Legion Auxiliary Colorado Girls State. This truly was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences I have ever been able to partake in.

Throughout the week, I was able to make new friends, learn new things and develop new passions! During my stay at the University of Northern Colorado campus, I was able to listen to dozens of motivational speakers from women who hold local and state offices within Colorado, Justice Melissa Hart, representatives from the Daniels and Boettcher scholarships, Serene Singh and so much more! In addition, I was able to further expand my knowledge on our country's governmental makeup as I attended mock legislative sessions and ran for government positions at the local, state and national level. My favorite thing I was able to do throughout the conference was attend the legislative panels. These panels were intense and gave me the opportunity to debate on topics I am extremely passionate about. This also inspired me and helped foster a new occupational goal for me as my love for our amazing country only grew and became even stronger!

It was such an honor to be involved in such an amazing process and this new knowledge and experience that I gained only helped my love for our amazing country grow and become even stronger and more prominent. I am so thankful for this amazing opportunity. It was truly such an honor to be selected as a delegate for ALA Colorado Girls State. I cannot thank the Holyoke American Legion Auxiliary enough for sponsoring me and allowing me to have this once in a lifetime opportunity. I also highly recommend that any upcoming juniors take advantage of this incredible program as it will truly transform and inspire you.
