Young entrepreneurs claimed $2,000 in prize money
On Thursday, July 21, three Phillips County students competed in Ogallala Commons’ 2022 Summer Virtual E-Fair. All competitors were asked to prepare a business plan that discussed their idea, their financial situation and future plans, as well as their marketing strategies, along with a brief video pitch for judges' review.
Student Jaelynn Miller prepared and pitched her business “Amazing Jae’s Kreations,” which has been selling freeze-dried treats since she started her business in March. Student Kaden Herman shared his business “Kaden’s Klothing,” a customized clothing endeavor that promotes community spirit by selling Dragons gear. Also competing was Ryan Davis, whose business “The Shirt Off My Back” sells clothing raising awareness and funds for the support of military veterans.
A final live interview session was held on July 21, where competitors met judges live via Zoom to share their projects, answer questions and present a final pitch.
Ogallala Commons announced last week that the three Phillips County students would walk away with the total of $2,000 in prize money to grow their businesses. Davis and The Shirt Off My Back achieved an investment of $250. Miners’s Amazing Jae’s Kreations was awarded an investment of $750 and Herman’s Klothing received the grand prize total investment of $1,000.
“We are so proud of the work these students put in–on their summer break no less–to build their entrepreneurial and professional skills,” said OC Youth Engagement Coordinator, Megan England. “They had great ideas that are already in motion and it was our pleasure to invest in their work!”
