Letter to the Editor,

Muriel Brown’s wishes will not be forgotten. The last few years of her life was a struggle but she endured to make sure her beloved town would be taken care of. It was an emotional roller coaster of love, mistrust, hurt feelings, sadness, confusion, frustration and anger that unfortunately we both lived through to get to the outcome she wanted. She is gone too soon, but she will be remembered in this community by her generous gift.

She was born and raised in this small town and wanted to leave her personal investments to the people she knew and cared about. Muriel has left a legacy to the town of Haxtun. To date the trust has donated $120,660 from her personal wealth. Organizations who have been on the receiving end of her gifts include the Haxtun United Methodist Church, Haxtun Hospital District, Haxtun Food Bank, Haxtun Swimming Pool Project, West Phillips County Cemetery District and Haxtun School District.

It is my honor and wish to continue distributions for as many years as the money continues to grow. With the help of Muriel’s friends we worked together to make sure her wishes would be carried out and I would like to acknowledge the people that helped: Lydia Dunbar, Marilyn Garretson, Bill Garretson, Joe and Candace Hofmeister, the late Dr. Breck McCarty, Pastor Jeri Soens, Diane Ulmer and the professional representation of Lori Hulbert. Thank you to all who cared.

Janell (Brown) Foley, Trustee
