Beverly Anderson

Beverly Jean (Hargis) Anderson died on Aug. 12, 2022 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush at the age of 86.

Beverly was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Pierce to Charles Hargis and Bernice (Mackay) Hargis. She attended school in Pierce, graduating in 1953. While in high school she was active in the drama club, was a cheerleader and graduated as class valedictorian. This is also where she met her high school sweetheart Leonard. They later married on July 19, 1954 in Raton, N.M. when Leonard came home from leave from the Navy. They lived in San Francisco, Calif. until Leonard was discharged from the Navy on Jan. 28, 1955. They returned to Colorado and made their home west of Pierce for 40 years.

Beverly was a devoted mother to her children: David, Kathleen, Linda and Dan. She spent many hours in the car, either driving them to an activity or waiting for them after sports practice. This is probably where her love of reading came from. She also spent countless hours on a bleacher supporting them in whatever venture they were participating in. She later spent her time driving her grandkids to and from baseball games and practices. Beverly was a Sunday School teacher and then later she helped in her grandkid's classrooms with the reading programs.

From the early 70s to 1996, Beverly worked at the Pierce Elevator. A major lifestyle change came in 1999 when her and Leonard moved to Haxtun, as the whole farming operation relocated from Nunn. Beverly had a knack for growing large Christmas Cactus that would be covered in blooms a couple of times a year. She also had a special talent in being able to keep African violets alive and blooming. A dog would always be on her lap or by her side and through the years many stray dogs found a home with her. If there was not a dog being petted, her hands were busy knitting afghans and sweaters.

Beverly is survived by sons David and wife Sherry Anderson and Dan and wife Jenni Anderson; daughters Kathleen Morrison and Linda Nevins; grandchildren Ryan Kanode, Adam and wife Samantha Kanode, Aimee Kanode, Kyle Morrison, Kaitlyn Ernst and husband Reid and Dusty Anderson; step-grandchildren Gina and husband Gary Morlan and Butch and wife Michelle Domino; great-grandchild Bret Kanode; sisters Ann Clayton and Chris Anderson; brother-in-law William Anderson as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are husband Leonard Anderson; father Charles Hargis; mother Bernice Hargis; step mother Marge Hargis; brother-in-law Martin Anderson; sisters-in-law Carol Mimms and Ethel Rasnic; and grandson Bret Kanode.

A graveside service was held on Aug. 27 at the Haxtun Cemetery.
