The first pension checks authorized under the new $45-a-month pension law were received at Haxtun Tuesday. The checks were mailed from Holyoke by Dana Archbold, county director of public welfare. There were 110 who received checks in the county this month.

Arland Weers, age 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Weers of Venango, was fatally injured Saturday afternoon when struck by a truck on the highway at Venango.
