LADY WILDCAT freshman Ciana Lousberg sets for the Lady Wildcat hitters during a homecoming sweep over Haxtun last week.

Despite last week's home win over Briggsdale and a road win over Haxtun, the Fleming Lady Wildcats dropped two spots to number four in Colorado High School Activities Association standings to the number four spot. Merino remains in the number one spot; Dove Creek and McClave have taken spots two and three with undefeated records.

The then 9-2 Lady Wildcats hosted the Briggsdale Lady Falcons last Thursday. Briggsdale entered the league contest at 8-3 on the season and took Fleming to four sets before adding a loss to their record.

The Lady Wildcats took a 25-18 win in set one on Thursday, but dropped set two 25-23. The local ladies bounced back to take sets three and four, 25-22 and 25-20, for the match win.

Senior Kally Kirkwood was among several Lady Wildcats to earn a double-double for the night. Kirkwood earned team-high tallies in kills with 24 and blocks with seven. The addition of 19 defensive digs gave her a double-double.

Freshman Ciana Lousberg followed Kirkwood at the net in kills with six. She earned a double-double for the night contributing 25 assists and 10 defensive digs.

Seniors Laney Schliesser and Lexi Schaefer put up double digits in two categories from their back row positions. Schliesser led the team in digs with 20 and in serve receives with 36. Lexi Schaefer added 13 digs and 15 receives. Freshman Brooke Schaefer, the senior Schaefer's younger sister, put 17 serves into play for the match.

The elder Schaefer sister led the Lady Wildcats' serve game with four aces. Junior Madi Serrato followed with three. As a whole, the Lady Wildcats made good on nearly 92 percent of their serves for the night.

Senior Maddy Harms and freshman Ashley Bornhoft added solid numbers from the front row in blocks. Harms tallied five with one solo and four assisted; Bornhoft earned four off one solo and three assisted.

Fleming traveled to Haxtun on Friday night where they faced off with the Lady Bulldogs in their annual homecoming match. The Lady Bulldogs fell in three sets to the visiting Lady Wildcats, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-18, giving Fleming their eighth sweep of the year.

Individual stats for the match against Haxtun were not reported as of press time.

The Lady Wildcats' lone contest of this week is set to be played on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Peetz. The Peetz Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Wildcats in the season opener in late-August. They've since gone on to fall to 0-6 on the season. Matches on Saturday are set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
