Haxtun FFA started their year off by bringing back the beloved Kickoff BBQ/Lock-in held on Monday, Sept. 18, the start of homecoming week. All members and their families were invited to join the chapter in eating a meal including burgers, hotdogs and a variety of sides and desserts provided by members. As the night went on, families trickled out, leaving members to stay and enjoy the evening. The officer team put together various games including mat ball, dodgeball, a corn hole tournament, an Xbox gaming room and a movie room! Members enjoyed bonding and competing the night away. To end the late night, door prizes were handed out to a few lucky winners. Prizes included cups, hats, lanyards and the grand prize was a basket full of many tasty snacks.

To continue the crazy week, chapter freshmen attended the District 16 B.I.G. Conference at Northeastern Junior College on Thursday, Sept. 22. When members first arrived, they were marked with either red or blue which separated them into different and random groups. The icebreaker for the day was writing some fun facts about themselves onto a piece of paper. They then folded their paper into an airplane and threw it across the room, next they picked up a different airplane and had to find the owner of that plane. Many acquaintances were made through this activity.

After getting to know one another, they split into their red and blue groups. The groups started off by playing an intense round of ag/FFA jeopardy. Then, they were taught about SAE projects and how they can benefit not only their present lives but also their future. As the day moved on, the freshmen had the chance to dig deeper into Ag-related careers. They practiced their persuasive skills by creating an argument as to why their chosen career was the best. Next, they worked to hone their judging skills. After being assigned small groups, each group was given a category of items to judge. Kinsley Koberstein, an attending freshman, stated that her group judged "which Gatorade was the best between red, yellow, white and blue." Judging was the final activity before the groups came back together.

To finish the day, the 2022-23 District 16 officer team was introduced. The Haxtun chapter sent two of our own, Grace Gibson and Brock Miller, to interview for a position on the team. Gibson was introduced as the District 16 Social Media Officer and Miller became the District 16 Treasurer. Overall, the conference was a great opportunity for the freshman to gain a deeper understanding of FFA and all it has to teach and offer.

The annual Member Auction held on Saturday, Sept. 24, was the grand finale of the crazy week. An insane 82 members were sold this year. Thanks to our incredible community, the Chapter was able to raise a significant sum. The money we raised will be used to fund other annual activities such as National Convention, State Convention, district and state CDE's, oyster fry and banquet, along with any community support the Chapter is able to provide.

FFA definitely started busy, but we are ready and excited for the year ahead
