Fred Fillenberg, farmer southwest of Haxtun, reported the theft of 40 to 50 fine Buff Orpington pullets from his place to the sheriff's office in Logan County Monday. It is believed that the chickens were taken in the early hours of Sunday morning. On Friday night, 35-40 chickens were taken from the D.W. Des Voigne farm south of Haxtun. The sheriff's office at Holyoke is working on clues. As of Wednesday morning, Sheriff Clements reported that no arrests had been made.

Miss Zada Olson of Haxtun and Mr. Leroy D. Smith of Sterling were married Saturday, Oct. 23, at Fort Morgan. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J.L. Spargo, pastor of the Methodist Church. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Olson of north of Haxtun and a graduate of Haxtun High School. She was a teacher of home economics in the Haxtun school three years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Suhl were among those from this community who attended the Hereford sale at the Otto Fulscher farm near Amherst Monday. The highest price paid for one animal was $3,000. The Fulscher Hereford herd is one of the outstanding breeding herds in the country.

Oct. 29, 1952

Hospital News - Winston Ham was admitted for an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday afternoon and was released Monday.

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Jess Winemiller have returned from a month's trip to the northwest. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Herb Acott of Longmont. Among other interesting sights, they visited the Wyerhauser lumber mill at Eugene, Ore., where they watched logs as large as nine feet in diameter being made into the kind of lumber you use to make shelves, tables and cupboards.

Almost 1,000 people had chest x-rays during the first week the mobile x-ray unit operated in Northeast Colorado. The unit started in the southern part of Morgan County and moved across the southern part of Washington and Yuma counties, then north to Wray on Wednesday. It will be in Yuma and then Otis and Akron.

Obituaries: Robert H. Kurtzer, 72, Oct. 18, 1977; Earle Breezley, Oct. 2, Danville, Ill.; Bernard Berhost, 87, father of Ruth Wilson, Sunday, Oct. 23, 1977; Clyde Reynolds, 80, Oct. 21, 1977.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Enninga of Byers are the parents of a baby girl born Oct. 21. She was named Megan Johanna Enninga.

Highland Center News - Wednesday evening guess of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Ham and Marcie were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Fuesz and family, Mrs. Jeanne Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Verner Ham and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Ham and Joni. The occasion celebrated Marcie's first birthday. Homemade ice cream and birthday cake were enjoyed by all.

The Paoli Chapter of the Jaycees was organized last week with the help of the Haxtun Chapter. There are 22 members. Officers are Lee McConnell, Marlin Smith, Stormy Baker, Rick Lett, Ed Neiman, D. Neiman, Marion Russell and C.J. Kain.

Oct. 28, 1992

Robert Dee has assumed the position of senior partner at the law firm of Benedetti & Dee, Attorneys at Law, Wray. He is the son of Henry and Inez Dee of Haxtun.

Obituaries: Robert A. Fix, 59, Oct. 4, 1992; Delia O. Davis, 65, Oct. 25, 1992.

Gathering in July for a four generation portrait were Alice Cheramy and Renee Vandenbark of Fleming, and Alicia Vandenbark and Clara Schumann, Haxtun.

Friday night's 34-6 Bulldog victory over the Revere Raiders secured Haxtun Bulldogs at number three in the Lower Plains Conference and a chance at State.

Paul Schmidt, Haxtun Hospital administrator, questioned the federal agenda for rural hospitals in a visit with Congressman Wayne Allard last week. Allard agreed that some federal policies tend to discouraged too many small hospitals.

Commissioner candidates, respond to questions: Republican James Mort, Democrat, Jay Dean Krueger, Democrat Jack Kennedy, Republican Larry Haynes, Republican Tommy Thompson and Democrat Keith Sharpe.

Phillips County voters have a decision to make between Don Lock and Carl Wirth for the District Three seat on the Phillips County Board of County Commissioners during upcoming elections on Nov. 6.
