Middle daughter Iris, Jennifer Harris, and her childhood sweetheart, Carter Dockpin, Steven Meakins stand waiting to hear the news. Two places of business in Haxtun were entered last Sunday night or early Monday morning and a small amount of cash and merchandise taken. The Yorke Café was entered and about $8 in change was taken from the cash register. At the Frock Shoppe conducted by Mrs. John Neil, merchandise valued at approximately $5 was stolen.
The town council tabled the applications for the issuance of licenses for the sale of liquor at Haxtun in 1938. Applications were filed by J.L. Chaney, operator of the Haxtun Liquor store and by John Kirchhofer, owner of the Corner Lunch.
