FIRST 1988 baby two weeks old and already at work! Cameron Bryant Ham, born Jan. 19, was the first 1988 baby at Haxtun Community Hospital. At two weeks old, he is already accompanying his mother, Sandy, to work at HBF Feedlots east of Haxtun two days a week.

Jan. 26, 1938

A public sale is being advertised for next Monday by John B. Cooler two and one-half miles south and one and one-half miles west of Fleming. The list includes six head of horses, 11 head of cattle and farm machinery. Numerous items of household furniture, chickens, feed, hay and other farm equipment will be disposed of at auction with Ray Price, auctioneer.

Harvey Stenmark of Denver was awarded the contract to build the new high school gymnasium at Haxtun. His base bid was $30,831.

Haxtun bridge players were winners in a matched contest with a group of Holyoke men Monday evening: from Holyoke, John Zeiler, Dr. C.M. Drost, Joe Griffith, William Spelts, Pat Bentson and Frank McBee. From Haxtun, M.E. Thornhill, A.M. Ahnstedt, Emil Bentson, L.E. Fitzgerald, John Nauman, Ray Phillips, R.V. Exstrom and Dr. M.B. Schmelzel.

Sunbeam News - Mrs. Leonard Sharpe and Keith visited Sunday at the Ted Sharpe home while Gust Hadeen, Marlo and Leonard Sharpe were hunting bones.

Jan. 28, 1953

The newly completed kindergarten building in Haxtun was put in use for the first time Monday. It is located on the southwest corner of the school grounds and is one of the most modern, up-to-date kindergartens in the state. Mrs. Neff is the teacher.

Clarkville News - Mrs. B.H. Peterson is having a siege of the flu and has been in the Haxtun hospital since Friday.

Fairfield News - The senior league members met at the home of their sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Alvy Garretson, Monday evening. New officers: Melvin Skold, Jodelle Roos, Betsy Jean Knode, Mary Ann Eckman, Frances Bjorklun and Astrid Franson.

Jan. 26, 1978

Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Biesemeier announce the engagement of their daughter, Connie to Donald Reutter, son, of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Reutter. A June 11 wedding is planned.

Brett Garretson won grand champion sweepstakes in the Colorado Milling and Baking Contest at the National Western Stock Show.

Haxtun girls' basketball team: Coach Jodi Heermann, Chelle Nelson, Kari Starkebaum, Kathie Anderson, Judy Roos, Kristie, Constance, Shelly Burton, Arlene Weers, Rhonda Potter, Joyce Olson, Tammy Ridenour, Tammy, Bjorklun and Shelly Stansbury.

Fleming News - The FFA boys and their sponsor, Ralph Deines, attended the stock show in Denver Monday. Also acting as sponsors: Mrs. Ralph Deines, Mr. and Mrs. Burl Brownell and Darrell Grauberger. Finnis Brown was the bus driver.

Jan. 27, 1993

Haxtun Hospital District's first baby of 1993 is Logan Alan William Krier, pictured with parents, Alan and Vonda Krier of Sterling. He was born Jan. 24.

Retired conservationist, Chuck Allen chats with Merlyn "Pink" Queen, current conservationist, both pictured at an open house held on Thursday for the remodeling a Haxtun Soil Conservation offices.

Leah Anderson, a junior at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., has been named to the Dean's list for the 1992 fall semester.

The Haxtun FFA took part in the National Western Stock Show's FFA day on Jan. 19. Students attending: Dale Chaney, Rob Steinman, Alan Eckman, Damon Fetzer, Justin Lett, Brian Starkebaum, Ryan Salvador, Casey Sumter, Jason Hadeen, Chad Bamford, Jared Kurtzer, Bill Mathews, Jamie Ruch, Somer Ruch, Roy Pfaltzgraff, Beth Wernsman, Amanda Seger and Jessica Harms.

Plans are in the works for the Haxtun School District to apply for a BEST grant in hopes to fund an addition to the school building to allow for more classroom space. In order to do so, the Board of Education recenlty voted to move forward with a proposal to develop a master plan.
