Veterans honored through local contest

The Haxtun American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a Patriotic Quilt contest to honor veterans and provide support to wounded military personal. Operation First Response needs Cot Quilts for backpacks to provide to the wounded when they arrive at the hospital with no personal belongings. Larger quilts are delivered to medical facilities in the States.

Contest requirements: quilts must be entered a the Phillips County Fair at the Event Center on Wednesday, July 26 from 1-6 p.m.; sizes allowed include 45x45, 36x36 and 70x70; must be red, white and blue; machine quilting is preferred but not required; only one entry per exhibitor; quilts will be judged by a veteran; ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place; all quilts entered will be donated to Operation First Response and will not be returned to exhibitors.
