100-meter relay team breaks school record

HAXTUN four-by-100-meter relay team members (l-r), Michael Gerk, Kyle Fryrear, Ryland Wolff and Josh Wright set a new school record in Yuma on Monday with a time of 44.60. The team beat the 44.61 record in place since 1999.

The Haxtun boys four-by 100-meter relay team set a new school record on Monday at the Bill Kalb Invitational in Yuma. The team of Michael Gerk, Kyle Fryrear, Ryland Wolff and Josh Wright beat the long-standing school record by one second.

The previous record was set in 1999 with a time of 44.61 by Colton Salyards, Brett Ley, Jeff Firme and Sean Lett. Monday's team ran the relay in 44.60, putting their time and names in school record books.

Below is a list of other top-10 finishes at the Bill Kalb Invitational on April 10:

Girls

800-meter run: Heily Avery, seventh, 2:55.91.

100-meter hurdles: Kaity Williams, ninth, 19.43.

1,600-meter-run: Emily Anderson, ninth, 7:05.09.

Four-by-800-meter relay team: fifth, 11.50.35.

Four-by-200-meter relay team: 10th, 2:01.87.

Four-by-100-meter relay team: 10th, 56.93.

Four-by-400-meter relay team: sixth, 4:53.22.

High jump: Jayleigh Bullard, first, four feet, 11 inches; Avery, tie for ninth, four feet, four inches.

Shot put: Cassidy Goddard, fifth, 32 inches, 10 feet.

Discus: Goddard, third, 97 feet, two inches.

The girls' team finished in 10th place with 29 points.

Boys

100-meter-dash: Wolff, fourth, 11.79; Fryrear, fifth, 11.82; Grant Statz, sixth, 12.12.

200-meter-dash: Statz, seventh, 25.15.

1,600-meter run: Corbin Andersen, seventh, 5:32.57.

3,200-meter-run: Andersen, sixth, 12:54.27.

Four-by-100-meter relay team: first, 44.60.

Four-by-200-meter relay team: first, 1.33.79.

Four-by-400-meter relay team: sixth, 3:55.25.

Four-by-800-meter relay team: eighth, 9:50.88.

Sprint medley relay team: fourth, 4:43.90.

Long jump: Statz, ninth, 18 feet.

The Bulldogs earned a total of 54 points for a fifth place team finish.

On Saturday, April 8 the track team competed at the Holyoke High School Invitational. Top-10 results from that meet are as follows:

Girls

100-meter-dash: Williams, third, 13.90.

400-meter-dash: Lilly Lemesany, fifth, 1:12.48; Fallon Bamford, sixth, 1:12.99; Annie Wilson, eighth, 1:19.35; Julia Freeman, 10th, 1:19.60.

800-meter-run: Avery, second, 2:47.34; Hadley Feik, sixth, 3:20.66.

1,600-meter-run: Anderson, second, 7:09.29.

100-meter-hurdles: Williams, second, 19.73; Halli Philp, seventh, 21.30.

Four-by-100-meter relay team: forth, 56.39.

Four-by-200-meter relay team: fourth, 2:04.71.

800-meter-relay team: fourth, 2:11.37.

Four-by-400-meter relay team: second, 4:54.13.

High jump: Bullard, second, four feet, 11 inches; Bobbi Starkebaum, sixth, four feet, six inches; Reagan Jones, Avery and Freeman, tie for ninth, four feet, four inches.

Long jump: Feik, eighth, 11 feet, 6.75 inches.

Discus: Goddard, first, 109 feet, 4.5 inches; Zoe Kurtzer, eighth, 83 feet, nine inches; Jones, ninth, 80 feet, four inches.

Shot put: Goddard, fourth, 32 feet, one inch.

Boys

400-meter-dash: Josh Wright, second, 52.61.

800-meter run: Scott Engle, third, 2:26.43; Wright, fifth, 3:03.65; Chris Durbin, sixth, 3:04.57.

1,600-meter-run: Durbin, 10th, 6:32.42.

Four-by-100-meter relay team: sixth, 51.31.

Long jump: Wright, fourth, 18 feet, seven inches.

Discus: Jake Tori, seventh, 99 feet, one inch; Mick Scholten, eighth, 97 feet, 8.5 inches.

Shot put: Tori, fourth, 37 feet, 6.5 inches; Scholten, sixth, 34 feet.
