April 13, 1938

Resignations were received from John B. Nauman, teacher of the seventh grade, and Ruby Bellamy, first grade instructor. Only one of these vacancies will be filled, however, as the staff is being reduced from nine to eight teachers. C.A. Skold will teach academic subjects in addition to his duties as principal. H.E. Anderson of Willard is an addition to the staff. No change was made in salaries of teachers for the coming year.

Highland Center News - The blizzard of April 6 was the most severe storm in the community since 1931. Thirteen grade pupils, eight high school students, Lawrence Schachterle and Mr. Pierce were forced to stay at the teacherage Wednesday night. Dorothy Butte and Winnifred Eckman were in charge of the kitchen.

April 15, 1953

Fleming News - The band picnic, which was to have been held April 13, has been canceled on account of weather and the outbreak of infectious hepatitis.

Fairfield News - The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Fornander of Chappell, Neb., has been staying with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bjorklun, while his parents were attending a church conference in Oklahoma.

Clarkville News - Mr. and Mrs. Leland Barber and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hackett spent Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Salvador and Donna to help Donna celebrate her birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Everett McConnell attended the Guy Lombardo concert in McCook, Neb., Sunday.

April 13, 1978

Haxtun seniors rehearse a scene from "Finder Creepers," to be presented April 14. Cast members: Tim Carper, Bryce Hill, Sandy Wilson, Brian Henry, Max Fetzer, Kari Starkebaum, Dallas Reyher, Kevin Constance, Chad Fix, Roger Burton, Tammy Ridenour and Vicki Michael.

Receptionist Cindy Seger is getting situated in her new surroundings in the new Haxtun Family Medicine Center building. The clinic has been in use for about a week.

Fleming seniors presented the play, "Cheaper by the Dozen," Thursday and Friday night. Cast: Valerie Mitchell, Steve Unrein, John Williams, Mike Schaefer, Lyna Whittington, Cindy Sweet, Kris Acott, Mark Burenheide, Ellen Thomas, Don Hulse, Neal Lambert, Johanna Korja, Louise Dodd, Debbie Gorbutt, Gary Roach, Bob Vandenbark and Craig Loos.

April 14, 1993

Haxtun postmaster Lynn Langway starts her transition in the new Post Office April 8. She is replacing Pat Seger, who was Haxtun's interim postmaster when Alyce Madison left for her new post last month.

Jan Workman was named Chamber Employee of the Quarter, the first to receive the new award. Rick Lockwood took over the reins as president on Wednesday.

Haxtun's fifth graders complete pioneer unit: Stacy Dix, Sheena Irish, Crystal Munday, Abby Ensminger, Kyle McConnell, Andrew Kejr, Lesley Klinzmann, Tony Wagoner, Ross Edwards, Megan Michael, Lisa Pauli, Tracie Bishop, Debbie Brasby, Matt Firme, James Rahe, Wade Sumpter, Bryan Klassen, Dustin Hadeen and John Neel. Mr. Dick McDaniel is their teacher.

Fleming High School crowned seniors Jarrod Boerner and Genysie VanDuren as this year's Prom King and Queen during grand march ceremonies held Saturday, April 13.

Haxtun High School Prom Queen Katlin Davis and King Kyle Pierce were crowned during grand march ceremonies Saturday night.

Phillips County Relay for Life is coming to Haxtun. The Relay will celebrate "Decades of Hope" June 7-8 at the Haxtun baseball field.
