Joan Salvador

Joan Salvador

Joan Eileen (Olson) Salvador passed away on June 1, 2023 at the age of 83.

She was born June 14, 1939 in Lyman, Neb. to Clara (Groves) and Arthur Olson. She was their third child and the only girl out of their four children. She grew up in Lyman, working for various families in the area as a nanny and housekeeper until she graduated from Lyman High School in 1957.

She married Dale Colerick on Aug. 16, 1958 and they lived in various locations in Colorado and Nebraska. Together they had four children: Randy Colerick, Dale Colerick, Jr., Sheri Colerick Ingalls and Kristi Colerick Dix. She and Dale divorced in 1979 and she continued to live and work in Sterling, where she was employed by Bedford Upholstery and was an active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Joan married Paul Salvador in 1990 and she and Kristi moved to Haxtun, where she opened her own upholstery shop that she ran with Paul for many years, as well as working side-by-side with Paul on the farm.

Joan was a woman of faith and devoted to the Lord who took her physically from us when He needed her. She was active in the Pleasant Valley Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed the outdoors and had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed many trips that included hiking, boating, snowshoeing and traveling both abroad and around the United States to visit her children and friends. Joan loved gardening and the only bloom she didn't like was bindweed. Those of us that knew her will remember Joan as always pleasant, funny, caring and very generous to all. Joan passed on the wisdom she earned to anyone who was in need and would listen. Joan will be missed by all.

She is survived by her children Randy and Denise (Klug) Colerick, Gig Harbor, Wash., Dale "Rick" and Carrie (Boland) Colerick, Hillrose, Sheri and Craig Ingalls of Stanton, Iowa, and Kristi and Mark Dix, Otis; stepdaughters Judy Crossland, Haxtun, and Cheryl Salvador-Johnston, Holyoke; stepson Mike Salvador, Clovis, N.M .; grandchildren Phil Klug, Mary Marsh, Brittany Collins, Rachel Beaver, Cody Helbert, Travis Helbert, Justin Ingalls, Jessie Ingalls-Wright, Keragan Dix and Jacen Dix; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandsons; and three step-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Salvador; parents Arthur and Clara Olson; brothers Donald Olson and Ronald "Butch" Olson; sisters-in-law Shirley Olson and Jan Olson; and sons-in-law Harold Crossland and William Johnston.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held at a future date at the Pleasant Valley Church of Yuma.

In lieu of flowers and plants, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
