The last teaching vacancy in the Haxtun High School was filled recently when Miss Marjorie Anderson of Holyoke was selected to teach English for the coming term. She comes to Haxtun from the New Raymer school system. She is the daughter of Ralph Anderson of Holyoke.

Philorado News - Norman Starkebaum is visiting at home for a short time before summer school begins.

Good Hope News - Mrs. Frank Daily is at the Howard Lindgren home, taking care of Mrs. Lindgren and Glendora, who are sick with the measles.

June 24, 1953

Blane Dean Hastings, formerly of the Haxtun community, was among the 3,200 graduates at the University of Southern California on June 13. He attended the Highland Center grade school when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hastings, farmed south of Haxtun.

Clarkville News - Jackie Wisdom is having a siege of the measles this week.


A disastrous hail and wind storm hit the south country late Sunday afternoon and laid waste to many acres of promising wheat fields. The hailed strip started in 12 miles south of Haxtun and was about five miles wide.

June 22, 1978

Seven members of the Haxtun Future Business Leaders of America will leave on June 30 for San Francisco, Calif., to attend the national conference: Beverly Wilson, Julie Scott, Bill Renzelman, Chad Fix, Tammy Ridenour, Art Lick and Rhonda Potter. Marilyn Garretson, advisor, will accompany the group.

The Haxtun boys' lightweight track team: Ed Wernsman, Terry Ruch, Tony Wernsman, Dennis Ruch, Paul Davis, Robbie Eastin, Kenny Ham, Mark Gueck, Chris Bornhoft, Correy Lick, Rodney Lambert, Rusty Olson, Glenn Martin and James Ellis.


The Fleming Class of 1928 celebrated its 50th reunion on Saturday: Clyde Saylor, Bob Stephens, Esther Saylor, Lloyd Acott, Florence Lawrence, Frances Vandermeer, Catherine McDaniel, Clarence Munday and Bonnie Lee Morris.

June 26, 1993

Fleming reunion - Members of the Class of 1933 met for their 60 year reunion: Margaret Winemiller Acott, Marjorie Johnson Jones, Alice Stephens Kennedy, Harold Gueck, Wendell Goff and Kenneth Wertz.

Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13 were Eldon and Fern Salyards of Haxtun. They were married in Tacoma, Wash.

Judy Lynn Hart of Denver and David James McFadden, Jr. of Broomfield exchanged wedding vows on May 22 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun. The Rev. Stephen Ute, cousin of the bride, of St. John's Lutheran Church in Yuma, officiated the ceremony.

The Haxtun Public Library plans to host a book signing for local author Jean Gray on Friday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gray will be on hand at the library that day to sign copies of her book, Homesteading Haxtun in the High Plains: Northeast Colorado History, which will be available for purchase that day.

Melinda Groshans cut 15 inches of hair Friday night, June 7 at the Phillips County Relay for Life. Melinda and several others donated a combined 54 inches of hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, an organization that helps women fighting cancer by supplying free wigs. Corey Humphreys and Annie Stephens, with the Snip-N-Style did the honor of cutting locks during the event held at the Haxtun Ball Park.
