Among those from the Haxtun community who attended the field day at the Akron station were Lennie Ahnstedt, Bill Beckman, Dean Schachterle, Irving Schachterle, Laurie Ramsay Rex Edwards, Robert Reynolds, C.W. Scofield, Stanley Dee, Clarence Rhodes, C.C. Ruch, Francis Ahnstedt, Gust Anderson, John Anderson and Carol Lydin.

Rev. Mack W. Hicks, new pastor of the church of the Nazarene in Haxtun, delivered his first sermon here last Sunday. He will succeed Rev. L.O. Webber.

Good Hope News - Mrs. Keith Bunker sustained a broken ankle when a cow she was milking kicked and fell on her.

70 Years Ago

July 1, 1953

Hospital news: Mr. and Mrs. Merl Koch are the parents of a baby daughter born June 26. She was named Laurie Lynn.

Mr. and Mrs. Clark Starkebaum are the parents of Larry Bruce, born June 19.

The Haxtun Boy Scouts, who are attending camp, Bob Waite at Estes Park this week are Leon Atkins, Wayne Chaney, George McCulloch, Pat Sturgis, Jimmy Yorke, Dennis Hovel, Jimmy Kasperek and Donald Norris.


Fleming News - The Bob Snyders were reported in error to be the proud parents of a daughter. The baby is a boy, Ronald Dale, born Thursday.

June 29, 1978

Mrs. Everett McConnell of Haxtun was elected and installed as state president of the American Legion Auxiliary at the organizations 60th annual convention in Gunnison June 23-25.

Greg Bamford of Haxtun, president of the National Future Farmers of America in 1967-68, was the speaker at a special program of the Colorado FFA convention, commemorating the organization's 50-year history.


Miss Connie Biesemeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Biesemeier, and Don Reutter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Reutter, were united in marriage on Sunday, June 11, 1978, at the Haxtun, United Methodist Church. Rev. Gordon Benesh performed the double-ring, candlelight ceremony at three o'clock in the afternoon.

Haxtun received a silver award in parliamentary procedure competition at the 50th annual convention of the Colorado FFA June 4-6 at Adam State College, Alamosa. Members of the team: Dave Kain, Mike Miller, Darry Stansbury, Mitch Miller, Troy Whitmore and Brett Garretson.

Judy Kain was honored as Colorado School Nurse of the Year by the Colorado School Health Council this past weekend.


Little Leaguers for Haxtun this summer include Andy Kejr, Wade Sumpter, Kelly Michael, Scott Hadeen, Kyle McConnell, Mike McBee, Josh Cox, Brett Ley, Dustin Hadeen, Jeff Firme, Ross Edwards, Tracy Ham, with coaches Doug Larson and Jonetta Durbin.

Little girls' softball team: Amanda Freemyer, Carly Firme, Megan Seger, Libby Schaefer, Christina Paull, Ashley Ruch, Krystle Hofmeister, Lacey Harshbarger, Marcie Olson, Krystal Kugler, Sheena Irish, Melissa Starner, Sara Lundgren, Brittany Northrup, Jennifer Ham, Kay Seger, Lacey Salyards, Heidi Buttle, Abby Ensminger, Crystal Munday, Megan Michael and coaches Julie Orth and Cathy Starkebaum.

Fleming School staff members will see a two percent raise in pay next year following a vote by the board of education during a meeting last week. According to meeting minutes, board members voted to give the increase after approving a list of teacher contracts for the 2013-14 school year.


Haxtun has a new athletic director. The Board of Education voted to hire Dennis Tjaden to head up the schools' athletic department. He replaces Rod Workman who resigned from the position earlier this year.
