Alma Frank

Alma Frank

Alma D. Frank passed away peacefully at her home in the early evening of July 21, 2023. A lifelong resident of the Rockland and Dailey community, she spent just over 68 years on that rock hill, raising her family and supporting her community in various ways.

Alma was born in Haxtun on Dec. 12, 1928 to Fred J. and Clara (Hoffner) Fetzer. She was the third of nine children, growing up in the Rockland community, attending grade school there. She went to high school in Dailey through her Junior year. She attended Fleming High School her senior year, graduating in 1946. She enrolled in a business college in Denver, but decided that wasn't a fit for her. Moving home she accepted a position at the 1st National Bank of Fleming. She worked there until early 1954. In the afternoon of March 21, 1954, Alma married Ross Frank in Dailey. Following their honeymoon, they made their home in Dailey. That fall, they began building their home three miles south of Dailey, moving in on Memorial Day 1955. It was here that she spent the rest of her life, as a homemaker and mother, raising three children, Stan, Carol and Lewis.

Alma was a loving and dutiful mother, providing homemade treats for classroom birthday parties and holiday celebrations. She attended plenty of school activities ... sporting events, music performances, plays, etc. Her attendance at school activities continued with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alma became interested in clipping coupons and refunding. In a few short years her three kids declared her the unofficial Coupon Queen of NE Colorado. There was many a lucky shopper who scored a coupon from her in the grocery store aisle! Her couponing experience led her to encourage the Fleming elementary students to collect Campbells soup labels and box tops for some additional classroom supplies. Many evening hours were spent trimming soup labels, box tops and counting and redeeming them.

Alma was a member of the Haxtun Methodist Church and active with the Methodist Women. She enjoyed the Christian fellowship and the various activities/projects.

Alma always had a yearning to travel, even if Ross was happy to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground at Dailey. They did travel to Florida twice and she was lucky enough to visit several other states. A few of the highlights being the Lincoln Memorial, United States Capitol and several of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C., The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Betsy Ross's home in Philadelphia, Time Square and third row center seats at a Broadway show in New York City. Her ultimate highlight was climbing the 354 steps to the crown of the Statue of Liberty at age 87, and lucky enough to have the "crown" to herself for several minutes to gaze at the view.

Alma is survived by sons Stan and wife Val and Lewis, both of Sterling; grandchildren Jessica and husband Doug Hadeen, Sterling, Justin Frank and Aspen Lindley, Fort Collins and Jordan and wife Heather Frank, Diana, Texas; great-grandchildren Jayson Frank, Colton and Clay Hadeen, Rostin and Ty Frank, Shaedon Karshner and Jackobi Frank; brothers Robert L. and wife Ronda Fetzer, Haxtun, and Dean Fetzer, Crook; sisters-in-law Rosemary Fetzer, Akron and Joyce Fetzer, Haxtun; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ross; daughter Carol; parents; sisters Lily and husband Kenneth Salyards and Wilma and husband Marvin Tanner; brothers Albert and wife Cleo, Emil, Kenneth and Dave; and sister-in-law Deanna Fetzer.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in honor of Alma to the Haxtun Methodist Women or Hospice of The Plains c/o Tennant Funeral Home P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the Haxtun Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating.
