Aug. 10, 1938

Miss Eileen Riley of Haxtun and Floyd Royle of Fleming, were married in Sterling last Sunday at the Methodist parsonage. The Rev. H.L. Elston perform the ceremony.

Friday of next week is Circus Day in Haxtun with Barney Bros. three-ring wild animal circus coming to town. Regular admission price is 30 cents and 60 cents, but by obtaining guest tickets from merchants, the price is 15 cents on a child's ticket and 30 on an adult ticket.

North County Line News - Threshing has been the order of the day in this community. Several horses are having a seige of sleeping sickness. Gene Peterson lost a calf with blackleg last Friday.

Aug. 12, 1953

Miss Norma Jean Hulse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hulse of Paoli, and Harlow E. Schumacher, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schumaker of Holyoke, were united in marriage at 2:30 o'clock on Sunday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.


Fairfield News - Edythe Sandquist and LaVonne Voris were Sunday dinner guests of Astrid Franson.

Fleming News - The new band director, Bradford Babcock, met with 23 members of the band Saturday night in the band room.

Dailey News - Mrs. LaNear Frank and Dolores, and Mrs. Ernest Wheeler attended the shower for Vicki Waln at the Methodist Church in Fleming Wednesday evening.

Aug. 10, 1978

Kristie Constance exhibited the grand champion breeding swine at the Phillips County Fair held last week. Some other winners from Haxtun: Scott Meakins, senior winner, overall performance horse and rider; Dave Kain, grand champion market lamb; Troy Whitmore, reserve grand champion market lamb, grand champion breeding sheep, reserve grand champion Hereford steer and first in rate-of-gain beef contest.


Fred and Cathy Hill have purchased the Hobby Hut and are now open for business in Haxtun. The store features numerous craft supplies as well as a Montgomery Wards agency.

Fleming High School cheerleaders who attended the Dynamic Cheer Association Camp last week were Jodi Lambert, Julie Brownell, Patti Bornhoft, Kendra Morison, Sharon Dreier and Sandy Dreier.

Aug. 11, 1993

Dr. Lori Bradley joins Haxtun medical community. It was while she was completing her residency that Dr. Bradley first came to Haxtun as part of the weekend internship program.


Debra Stieb and Tracy Dickerson, both of Haxtun, announce their engagement with an Oct. 16 wedding planned.

Area students earn degrees from Northeastern Junior College: Thomas Davis, Barbara Ensminger, Cory Fuesz, Lorie Hessler, Sandra Lambert, Teresa Livingston, Dean Smith and Carolyn Ulmer.

The monthly August meeting of the Haxtun Town Council didn't last long but it was eventful and drew quite a crowd. One attendee, on behalf of attorney Janet Zimmerman and her clients Gib and Christy Becker and Harold Crossland, serve the Town and its employees with a notice of claims.

According to legal documents presented to each council member, the mayor and town clerk by Kurt Welsh, the Beckers and Crossland are requesting payment from the Town of Haxtun for having to take care of their property per the Town's nuisance ordinance.
