Haxtun Schools welcomes staff as students return

School started in Haxtun this week and with the return of students also comes new faces to several classrooms throughout the K-12 building. The following new certified and support staff welcomed students back this fall:

Nicole Kleve

High School Computer Science – Audio/Visual – PE

Tell us a little about yourself: I have lived a little bit all over, but now am happy to call Haxtun my home. I have two kids; Nikolas is entering the fourth grade this year and LaeAnne is entering seventh grade this year. We have a pet betta fish named Hufflepuff (he's black and yellow). I enjoy reading and crafting in all the free time I can find.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is anything with cheese. My favorite drink is unsweet tea, or a Dr. Pepper Zero. My favorite colors are lime green, purple and yellow.

What is your favorite quote or book? My favorite book is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton but my favorite author is Fredrick Backman. My favorite quote is "The mind is not a vessel to be filled but fire to be kindled." - Plutarch

What are you looking forward to next year? I am looking forward to my new role in the high school and getting to know each of the students even more.

Shawn Cody

High School Social Studies

Tell us a little about yourself: I am originally from Alamosa, by way of Brush High School. I'm married to an amazing woman. We have one son, three daughters, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law and two dogs. I love to read and tour historic places.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? Favorite food, Steak/Chicken Marsala; favorite drink, vanilla or mocha latte – hot; and favorite color, Carolina blue.

What is your favorite quote or book? Favorite book is the Bible. Quote Matthew 22:37-40. Non-religious, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: "All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us," Gandalf the Grey (J.R.R. Tolkien).

What are you looking forward to next year? Getting to know the students and staff.

Haley Edwards

Junior High Science

Tell us a little about yourself: I grew up in Haxtun and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1999. I went to college at the University of Northern Colorado and got my degree in Dietetics with a minor in Psychology. I married my husband Ross in 2004 and we lived in Kersey for several years. I worked as a dietitian at NCMC in Greeley until my first daughter was born. After our oldest daughter Leah was born, we moved to Ft. Morgan. I worked at the hospital in Ft. Morgan for a short time until we moved back to our home town of Haxtun in October of 2013. We built a new house here in Haxtun just in time to welcome our second daughter Amber in April of 2016. My girls are now going into eighth grade and second grade. I have been working as a dietitian at Haxtun Health for the past few years.

I enjoy being outside and love spending time in my garden. I also like to scrapbook. I have always enjoyed reading and learning new things. I like to take family trips and we all love to dance.

We currently have no pets, but have talked about getting a dog on multiple occasions. We can't seem to agree on what type of dog we want.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is crab legs and I love chocolate. I like to drink hot tea and have a steamer with soymilk and hazelnut flavor on occasion. My favorite colors are blue, green and purple, but I love all bright colors.

My favorite books are "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks and "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. I don't really have a favorite quote, but my favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. It states, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

What are you looking forward to next year? I am looking forward to helping students become excited about what they are learning in science and realizing science is all around them all the time. I want students to be able to apply what they are learning to their everyday lives. I can't wait to learn and explore alongside my students using hands-on experiences. I am excited about finding ways to challenge them in new and unique ways. I look forward to working with the amazing staff at Haxtun Schools and making a positive difference in the lives of everyone around me. Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog!

Kimberly Jones

Second Grade

Tell us a little about yourself: I spent most of my childhood in Sterling, but now live in Sedgwick. I'm married to Nick Jones and have two children Avery, 9, and Miles, 6. We love spending time outdoors riding bikes, boating, and participating in sporting events.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is pizza, favorite drink is probably lemonade, but I mostly drink water, and my favorite color is purple!

What is your favorite quote or book? I don't have a favorite quote but I'm drawn toward anything inspirational such as: "You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." -A.A. MILNE

What are you looking forward to next year? I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work with Second Grade! I look forward to making a positive impact in the lives of students in Haxtun Elementary! I'm excited to get to know and become part of the Haxtun community!

Anything else you would like to share? I enjoy participating in 5k's I got into long distance running a few years ago and it's a great way to stay active. My husband is in a band called Mud County. My family enjoys to follow him around and watch him play in fields, streets, barns and bars. We attend church in Merino, where my husband was raised and have many connections in that community.

Emma Roll

High School Math

Tell us a little about yourself: I was born and raised in Holyoke. I graduated from Holyoke and went on to attend Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. I have a blue heeler named Cash and he is the best! I love being active, cheering teams on at sporting events and reading a good book.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is tacos, favorite drink is an iced matcha latte and favorite color is bright orange.

What is your favorite quote or book? My favorite quote is “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind,” by C.S. Lewis.

What are you looking forward to next year? I’m looking forward to putting what I’ve learned to use in the classroom, hopefully making math fun and success in it attainable! I'm also excited to teach Intro to Health Science which allows me to share my passion for health and some of what I have learned from my time studying Kinesiology.

Anything else you would like to share? I’m excited to get started as a Bulldog and get to know the students and the community!

Rob Martinez

High School Weights

Tell us a little about yourself: I retired from public safety after 30 years and built a home in Haxtun in 2019/2020. I have been married for 43 years to my lovely wife Arlene. We have three children and seven grandchildren

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is; Italian Cuisine, the best anywhere around for miles is in Arlene's kitchen. My favorite drink is unsweetened ice tea and my favorite color is blue, always a Pirate.

What is your favorite quote or book? "The harder I work, the luckier I get," unknown author. One of my favorite books is The Forgotten 500 by Gregory A. Freeman.

What are you looking forward to next year? Getting to know the kids and their families better.

Lori Kramer

7th-9th grade English Language Arts - Psychology/Sociology

Tell us a little about yourself: I am originally from Aurora. However, I have lived outside Holyoke since 2009 where my husband, Bret, works with his dad and brother on our family farm and feedlot. I have two daughters, Eva is a sophomore at University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying Emerging Media Arts. Charlotte is a senior who is part homeschooled and partially enrolled at Holyoke High School. We have a sweet rescue dog named Buster, who might be part beagle. I love to read, watch movies and do crafty things like crocheting and sewing.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite color is probably purple, but I like anything bright.

What are you looking forward to next year? I am looking forward to getting to know the kids, finding out what inspires them and encouraging them to use that inspiration in the classroom.

Colleen Lockwood

Junior/Senior High Secretary

Tell us a little about yourself: I have lived most of my life in Haxtun, graduating from Haxtun High School in 1982. I am married to Rick, we have two dogs, Bailey and Gabby. We have one daughter Karci. She and her husband Geoff and their 11-month-old son live in Grand Junction. Whenever we can, we love to make the trip to the beautiful western slope to be with Karci and Geoff and our little grandson. Christmas time and Summertime are my favorite. I love spending time in my yard, riding my bike or reading a good book. The previous 23.5 years I was employed at Northeast BOCES as the Executive Assistant. I began my position as the Haxtun Schools Jr ./Sr. High Secretary in May. To say I am thoroughly enjoying my job is an understatement. The incredible administration and staff has warmly welcomed me as part of their family.

What is your favorite food, drink, and/or color? My favorite food is shrimp tacos and German chocolate cake; my favorite drink is Coca Cola and my favorite color is black.

What is your favorite quote or book? My favorite quote is "People come into our lives for a reason, a season and sometimes a lifetime." -unknown. My favorite author is Janet Daily.

What are you looking forward to next year? I am excited for the school year to begin to get to know the students and to be a blessing in my role serving the staff and students effectively and efficiently and to shine with positivity throughout the school.

Audree Edwards

6th Grade Language Arts –

Elementary Counselor

Tell us a little about yourself: I am originally from Julesburg, where I graduated high school in 2008. After high school, I attended Colorado State University and graduated with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. I met my husband Grant (a graduate of HHS) in college, since all of us small Northeast Colorado kids tended to hang out together! After college, we moved back to Haxtun and got married in 2011. When we first moved back, I was the director at Haxtun Community Childcare Center (now Little Sprouts) until I took a position as a child welfare and adult protection caseworker with Phillips County. In 2015, I started with BOCES as a school social worker and earned my Master of Social Work degree from Western New Mexico University. I have worked in Haxtun through my BOCES role and also served on the school board from 2019 until taking this position.

We have three sons, Knox, Otis and Wade that keep us plenty busy! We also have a chocolate lab named Leroy. When not working, I enjoy helping on the farm, playing/watching sports, getting together with friends and family, being outside, reading and writing.

What are you looking forward to next year? I am looking forward to getting to know the students, and helping them develop a passion for being lifelong learners and kind humans. While I am familiar with and to the district in my previous role, I am ready to dedicate myself to Haxtun, a school I love and care so much about. I am also excited to work alongside the incredible Haxtun staff!
