The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs are off to a stellar start in the 2023 volleyball season boasting a 6-2 record in just the first few weeks fall sports action.

This year's team, led by Head Coach Don Schelling and Assistant Coaches Marissa Schelling, McCall Etl and Doug Kamery, kicked off the season with back-to-back tournaments and a home game against the Holyoke Dragons.

The Lady Bulldogs' season started as they traveled to Julesburg for the annual Sedgwick County fall tournament on Saturday, Aug. 19. The following contest with Briggsdale turned out different as the Lady Falcons picked up a 3-0 win over Haxtun.

The final game of the tournament pitted the Lady Bulldogs with the two-time defending State Champion Sedgwick County Lady Cougars. Haxtun claimed a win in set one but fell in game two to even things out midway through the contest. The Bulldogs went on to pick up wins in sets three and five for the victory, giving the Lady Cougars their first loss of the season and the team's first loss since October of last season.

The team traveled to Sterling to Northeastern Junior College a week later, taking part in pool play on Saturday, Aug. 26. Game one went to the Lady Bulldogs, who swept Arickaree to kick off the day. Haxtun went on to earn a win over Caliche in game two in a quick 3-0 contest.

Game three at NJC put Haxtun on the court with neighboring Fleming as the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wildcats battled it out on the court. Haxtun took sets one, three and four for the victory, handing the Fleming Wildcats their lone loss thus far this season.

On Tuesday the Lady Bulldogs hosted the season's home opener with a contest against the Lady Dragons from Holyoke. Haxtun took set wins in one, three and four, handing the Lady Dragons their third loss this season.

According to MaxPreps rankings as of Wednesday morning, the Lady Bulldogs sit third in all of Colorado 1A State rankings.
