Community members to seek seats on boards

Haxtun and Fleming school districts will have elections for available seats on their respective boards of education this fall. Petitions were required by Sept. 1 therefore a complete list of candidates have been released.

The Frenchman Board of Education in Fleming has three seats up for election in November including two, two-year term seats and one, four-year term position.

According to information from Superintendent Steve McCracken, Jeff Brekel, Leo Mekelburg and incumbent Carmen Vandenbark returned petitions for a four-year term on the Board.

Kamie Lambrecht, Aimee Haynes and Jeff Harms returned petitions for one of two open two-year-term seats.

Current members Shane Schliesser and Karianne Donnelson did not submit petitions for re-elections.

The Haxtun Board of Education has four openings that will be up for elections in November. Seats held by Amy Kilgour, Richard Starkebaum, Steven Hadeen and Abby Henry all expire this fall.

According to information from Superintendent Marsha Cody, Haxtun has a total of nine community members running for one of four open seats. Those members include: Steve Statz, Steven Hadeen, Amy Kilgour, Abby Henry, Ross Edwards, Valerie Wilson, Lee Salyards, Ben Stephenson and Trever Fix.

The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce along with The Haxtun-Fleming Herald plan to host a candidate forum along with a meet and greet at the Haxtun Community Center on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. At that time, candidates running for the local board of education will present answers to several questions and be available for follow-up later in the evening.

Ballots will be mailed to registered voters in mid-October and must be returned on Election Day, Nov. 7.
