"Wild West of Fleming" to be celebrated Sept. 23

Fleming’s annual Fall Festival is just around the corner. This year’s festival is slated for Saturday, Sept. 23 in downtown Fleming to the theme, “The Wild West of Fleming.”

Exhibit drop off begins the day prior to the celebration, taking place on Friday, Sept. 22 from 4:30-6 p.m. Categories include floriculture (live flowers only), gardening and produce, photo and art, homemade canned goods, cooking and crafts. Age groups are six and under, seven through 11, 12-17 and 18 and up.

Friday’s lineup also includes a South Plate Youth Football game and bonfire at the school. Times are yet to be determined.

Saturday’s events kick off with the fire department/FFA breakfast at 8 a.m. at the school cafeteria. At the same time, the Class of 2028 plans to host a fun run. To participate in the run, meet at the park. For more information call (970) 580-1970.

Vendor set up begins at the park at 8:30 a.m. followed by parade registration at 9 a.m. Parade entries should register at the baseball field and line up at the school.

The Fleming Library Association will plans to host a silent auction at the park, also beginning at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m. the kiddie parade will make its way down main street. Kids are to bring bikes or scooters decorated and ready for the parade. The general parade will make its way down main street at 10:15 a.m.

Later in the afternoon, kid games and a Fireman’s lunch will both take place at the park. The Fleming Volunteer Firemen plan to serve sloppy joes for a free will donation.

At 1 p.m., the Fleming Wildcats will take on the Haxtun Bulldogs in 6-man gridiron action. The two volleyball teams will face off in the gym at 3:30 p.m.

Other events include alumni meetings, with an open house in the school cafeteria from 2-4 p.m. and movie at the fire hall at 7 p.m. The movie is set to be Super Mario Bros. Free popcorn will be provided.
