Haxtun picks up second season win over Prairie; goes 1-3 for the week

The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs went west over the weekend to compete in the Volleyball Spectacular in Timnath. The day opened with play against Weldon Valley and continued with contests against Timnath and Prairie.

Three days later, the Lady Bulldogs returned to their home court for a match up with the Wiggins Lady Tigers.

Overall, Haxtun came out of the four-game run with one win and three losses to put the Bulldogs 8-5 overall halfway through the regular season.

Saturday's Volleyball Spectacular in Timnath featured best of three play with a final crossover game at the end. Haxtun first faced off with the Weldon Valley Lady Warriors and fell in two sets, 25-22 and 25-18. The second match of the day went the same for the Lady Bulldogs, this time falling to Timnath in two, 25-21 and 25-15.

The third and final game of play pitted Haxtun against the Lady Mustangs from Prairie. For the second time this season, the Lady Bulldog came out on top. Haxtun took set one 25-11 and set two 25-14. The two teams met earlier this year at the home of the Lady Bulldogs. In that contest, Haxtun won in three in best of five play.

Throughout three games on Saturday, Meggie Kilgour led the Lady Bulldogs in kills with 12. Bobbi Starkebaum followed with 11 kills in the Spectacular followed by Cassidy Goddard with nine, Megan Walker with eight and Jayleigh Bullard with six. Starkebaum registered four total blocks Saturday. Bullard tallied three and Goddard nailed one.

From behind the service line, Goddard led the Lady Bulldogs with six aces in the three contests. Walker and Emily Anderson each had two aces followed by Kelsie Hadeen with one. Lilly Lemesany and Goddard each served 100 percent against Weldon Valley. In game two against Timnath, Anderson and Hadeen had a perfect serving game. Anderson and Lemesany both went 100 percent in game three versus Prairie.

In the back row, Goddard led her team in digs with a total of 22. Megan Walker dug 18 attacks while Julia Freeman registered 11 and Lemesany totaled five.

Two setters led the day with assists; Hadeen tallied 23 sets followed by Walker with 17.

Tuesday's contest put Haxtun at the net with Wiggins, a top ranked team in 2A. The Lady Bulldogs fell in three, 25-11, 25-11 and 25-19. Stats from the game were not available as of press time.

The Lady Bulldogs are slated to return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they take the court against the Lady Eagles in Wray.

The Lady Eagles are currently 2-4 overall according to information on MaxPreps.
