Wildcats take home opening loss to Granada

PETER BREKEL, Fleming Wildcat junior, puts a hit on Granada intended receiver Jonus Guevara in Saturday afternoon's home opener. The Wildcats fell to the Bobcats that day, 71-19.

MaxPreps rankings put the Fleming Wildcats at number three in their league after the third week of play this season. The Wildcats come in behind Peetz and Briggsdale.

On Saturday, Fleming hosted the Granada Bobcats in their home opener. Both teams entered the contest at 1-1 on the year; Granada defeated Branson/Kim and lost to Stratton; Fleming defeated North Park and fell to Idalia.

The Bobcats came out on top to open Saturday's game. They went up by 18 after the first quarter, 30-12. They continued that momentum in the second quarter adding another 16 points while giving up just seven to the home team. Granada held a 46-19 lead at the half.

Fleming stood scoreless in the second half of the game. Granada would go on to add another 25 throughout the third and fourth quarters to earn a 71-19 victory.

Individual stats for the game were not reported as of press time.

Fleming is scheduled to travel to Crawford, Neb., on Friday to take on the Rams. Crawford enters at 1-1 according to MaxPreps. Kick off is set for 6 p.m.
