Wildcats take loss at Crawford, Neb.

FLEMING SOPHOMORE Mason Mollohan fights for yardage in the Wildcats' home opener earlier this month. The Wildcats return to their home field this weekend for a 6-man contest against the Haxtun Bulldogs.

The Fleming Wildcats traveled three hours north last Friday, Sept. 15, to take on the Rams of Crawford, Neb.

The Wildcats found themselves down 31-0 with just seconds left on the clock in the first half when a rushing touchdown by senior Matix Haney put Fleming on the board. The half would end at 31-6, Crawford.

Haney found the endzone once again at the beginning of the third quarter to put the score at 31-12, Crawford. The Rams tacked on another seven before Fleming answered back near the end of the third, leaving the Wildcats down 38-20.

The two teams matched one another for TDs early in the fourth and Crawford remained on top, 45-26. Both would find the end zone just once again before the final horn giving Crawford the 52-34 victory.

Junior Derek Houser and freshman Treyson Kirkwood split time under center. Houser completed one of six passes for 14 yards; Kirkwood completed one of two for four yards.


Senior David Betley caught both pass completions giving him 18 yards for the Wildcats in the contest.

Senior Wyatt Cochran led on the ground with 281 yards for the night. He carried the ball 27 times with a long carry of 57 yards. Cochran added three TDs to the scoreboard.

The Wildcats traveled to Crawford, Neb., last week where they suffered a 52-34 loss. This week, they're scheduled to host Haxtun on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming.

Haney found the end zone twice from 15 carries. He ran for 120 yards with a long of 30 yards.

Haney also led the Wildcat defense with 12 tackles after bringing down seven solo and five assisted. Sophomore Pierson Japp and freshman Conner Marchant followed with 10 tackles apiece. Japp brought down six solo and four assisted. Marchant split his at three and seven, respectively.


Cochran served as kicker for the night. He made good on two of five points-after attempts giving him 22 points in the game. Haney owned the remaining 12 points off his pair of rushing touchdowns.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host Haxtun this Saturday for a 6-man matchup. The contest marks Fleming's Homecoming and is being held in conjunction with Fleming's annual Fall Festival. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
