Lady Bulldogs pick up 5-set win on the road in Yuma on Tuesday

The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs knocked off the Lady Indians in Yuma in five sets Tuesday night. The win puts the team a 1-1 over the past week as Haxtun suffered a four-set loss in Fleming on Saturday. Right now the team holds a 10-6 record and according to MaxPreps is 4-1 in the 2A/1A Lower Platte League holding the number three spot behind number one Wiggins and number two Merino.

Tuesday night's action in Yuma proved to be exciting as the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a five-set win over the 2A Lady Indians. The Lady Bulldogs lost sets one and two, 25-19 and 25-17, but came back to dominate a third set, 25-8. The fourth was the closest of the five, and Haxtun came out on top, 25-22, sending the match to five. In the fifth and final, the Lady Bulldogs came out hot, taking it 15-8 for the win.

Stats for the contest in Yuma Tuesday night were not yet available as of the Wednesday morning press deadline.

In Fleming on Saturday, Haxtun handled the Wildcats 26-24 in set one to take an early advantage but on their home court and their annual homecoming celebration, the Lady Wildcats were ready to battle. Fleming came back to take sets two, three and four for the match win.

Seniors Julia Freeman and Cassidy Goddard led the team with six kills apiece on Saturday. Megan Walker came in with five while Emma Henry added four.

Emily Anderson and Lilly Lemesany both served 100 percent on Saturday. From behind the serving line, Freeman registered two aces. Kelsie Hadeen had one.

Freeman and Anderson both tallied 11 digs in the back row. Hadeen dug up 10 followed by Goddard with nine and Walker with nine. On serve receive, Freeman handled 33 balls, Goddard passed 25 and Anderson put up 14.

Setters Walker and Hadeen combined for 22 sets on Saturday; Hadeen with 12 and Walker with 10.

This week the volleyball team will travel to Akron for a Friday night match up with the Lady Rams. According to MaxPreps the Rams are 0-9 this season.
