Haxtun Hospital District opposes Proposition HH, Property Tax Changes and Revenue Change Measures, which will appear on the Nov. 7 ballot.

If approved by voters this fall, Proposition HH will reduce property taxes, for a time, resulting in billions of dollars of lost revenue for special districts and local governments. Approval will allow the State to keep and spend these taxes, that normally would be refunded to you. They are calling these retained tax dollars a "state surplus." "The State plans to use your tax dollars (that they now would get to keep) to fund services like "rental assistance." It will then be up to the State to decide to provide a partial and contingent backfill for the property tax revenues that local governments and special districts will lose.  

The Haxtun Hospital District Board of Directors meeting on Sept. 25 led to the adoption of a resolution opposing Proposition HH.  The resolution passed unanimously. 

This resolution specifically recognizes the importance and value our local citizens have to hold their special districts accountable and take action if their taxes are not warranted for the services, facilities and infrastructure provided by special districts in their communities. The Haxtun Hospital Board of Directors discourages the community from taking this proposition at face value. Instead, it encourages research on its effects and supports a no vote on Proposition HH.

Prop HH doesn’t change the overall tax burden for taxpayers much — it shifts where the taxes go and where they’re controlled.

"Shall the state reduce property taxes for homes and businesses, including expanding property tax relief for seniors, and backfill counties, water districts, fire districts, ambulance and hospital districts and other local governments and fund school districts by using a portion of the state surplus up to the Proposition HH cap as defined in this measure?"
