Bulldogs pick up 68-point win at home over Caliche Buffs; move to 6-0

Six games into the season and the Haxtun Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 327 to 42. In the last three contests, Haxtun has shut out their opponents. Of those 327 points, 68 came in Friday night's match up against Caliche. The Bulldogs topped the Buffs 68-0 in the annual homecoming match up to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Junior Ryland Wolff intercepted the ball in the Buffs first possession of the game. Two plays later, Grant Statz got the call and ran it in for a short, six-yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs on the board first. Caliche punted the ball away to the Bulldogs on their second possession and just several plays later, Wolff connected with senior Keegan Colglazier following a personal foul call to put Haxtun up 16-0 early in the first.

It was all Bulldogs from there on out as Haxtun went on to add six more points in the first and 24 in the second to take a 46-0 advantage at half time. Haxtun put up 14 points in the third and eight in the fourth for the 68-point win.

Total, the Bulldogs completed 28 plays at Adam Wernsman Field on Friday night including 16 first downs. Haxtun suffered nine penalties for a total loss of 70 yards.

Under center, quarterback Wolff completed four of eight passes for 103 yards and two touchdown passes. He averaged 25.8 yards per pass. Colin Cone also threw the ball, he connected with all three of his pass attempts for a total for 78 yards and one touchdown.

Chase Goddard led in receiving yards with 60. Mason Bornhoft tallied 53 yards from two catches including one touchdown. Colglazier caught one, 33 yard pass resulting in a touchdown. Corbin Andersen tallied two catches, one a touchdown, for a total of 18 yards in the air.

On the ground, Wolff racked up 104 yards off four carries resulting in two touchdowns. Kailin Kelley carried the ball once for a 68-yard touchdown. Kaiden Schelling, Coleman Firme and Grant Statz each registered a rushing touchdown in the match up with Caliche.

Two Bulldogs led in tackles including Grant Statz and Kelley; both registering eight total tackles. Colglazier tallied seven tackles followed by Seth Seger with five and Schelling and Zach Statz, each with four. Grant Statz had two sacks on the Caliche quarterback.

This week Haxtun will travel to the home of the Dayspring Christian Eagles for a Saturday afternoon match up in Greeley. According to MaxPreps, the Eagles are currently 1-5 overall. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
